Mikey is growing up « Result #4 Today at 8:42am »
Here is a pic of my little baby at the moment. Such an improvement from 3 and half weeks ago when i wasn't sure he was going to make it. When I took him out of the nest he couldn't grip or sit or stand or walk. He just lay there. I contacted Robyn as I feel she has the most ekkie experience on the forums I belong too to see if she knew of anything that could do this (not thinking at the time that my birds had not been feeding him). At one stage I thought he might not be able to walk but maybe could fly because he was strong enough to be flapping about 5 days after I took him out but still not walking or sitting properly. But now ........ he is climbing out of his box and proudly sitting like a "big boy"
He is 9 weeks old now (well 9 weeks and 3 days today) and he almost ready to fledge (flapping constantly) and loves his paw paw and rockmelon and bean mix I make and he is cracking seed but still on 3 feeds a day.
Check him out
Oh and I know many of you WONT believe me but he is actually saying "hello" already. We both heard him 2 nights ago babbling and in amongst it I heard him say "hello" then Stephen said "I heard him too" Then last night while trying to get pics of him perching on his box I was talking to him and he said "hello" to me........so I tried to get it on video and I only got him squarking at me wanting to be fed. lol He sees the camera and thinks "what the"

Aren't these vunerable little birds a joy to care for? We plan to release him provided he regains all his functions and fend for himself, but if not he will be another addition to our collection of disabled birds.

Re: Got some more budgies... « Result #14 Yesterday at 5:25pm »
I'm really glad I got her, too. Sandy is such a sweet bird. I suspect she has suffered from nutritional deficiencies when young, though - I've been watching her all day (couldn't work, cause it rained!) and she behaves very oddly compared to any other budgies I've ever seen. It's really hard to describe - it's almost like she's a little 'simple'. That's a horrible way to say it, I know, but it's the best way I can think of! She is special. She's in breeding condition, and she's trying to nest in her food dish, so I'm going to get her a little hut. The guy I got her from hadn't had any luck actually breeding her, for whatever reason. I'm not going to try to breed her, even though she IS beautiful. I'll take her to the vet and see what happens. It is possible that she has a very mild form of PBFD or FM, and if that is the case, I'll keep her happy and as healthy as I can for however long she is with us. Taking precautions, of course! Good thing I live in a big house! LOL

very good. Sounds like my little Mikey I am raising at the moment. I didn't know what was wrong with him....but 3 weeks later I am now positive his parents had stopped feeding him and he literally was almost dead. He couldn't grip or walk but now..........he flaps and tries to get out of his box and walks to me and calls me......such a darling.
