Here is a pic of Nudenut........and he is a he ;D taken while he was sleeping this morning......isn't he just precious ;D
He is 27 days old and I just put him on 3 feeds a day yesterday and he is eating between 25 to 30ml per feed and this morning weighed in at 222grams. ;D he has been such a pleasure to raise so far and he has taught me so much. Raising him from 2 days of age has been a wonderful experience and a wonderful learning experience as well.
You all know I have raised a few babies over the years with the last 3 years I have bred and raised a few eclectus and alexandrines. I tried to leave them in the nest until around 3 weeks for the alex's and 4 weeks for the ekkies ...... and did leave a clutch last year for the alex's to raise which they did. But have only been able to leave the ekkies with a bub on 2 occassions until 6 and 7 weeks then had to raise them myself.
Even raising them and seeing them in the nest from day 1 etc has been such an eye opener and I have learned so much .......... but Nudenut has taught me so much more about formula thickening and crop stretching and lengthening the feeding times etc. In the past I had a couple of birds with slow crop due to me over feeding and not stretching out their feed times.
I have now been able to see that my formulas in the past were too thick (they were runny but still too thick) and by me be paranoid about feeding times etc I was actually overworking the crop.
Nudenut has never lost weight.......he had one day where he didn't gain weight (on day 6) but every other day he has gained weight. In the past I had chicks gain weight then lose a couple of grams, then gain heaps, then lose again etc etc. Maybe I have been extremely lucky with him........but it has certainly showed me what my mistakes in the past probably were (and I didn't have any serious problems really in the past anyway).
So that is my news......Nudenut is a BOY ;D and I am considering keeping him since losing Takoda.......I know he is not going to replace Takoda......but gee he is so cute ;D
I am tossing changing his name to Kumar or Charlie (not sure why Charlie..it just popped into my head).......but I will think about it for a bit longer yet.
