Hi all.
Well since I'm new to the world of lorikeet owning, I am still trying to work out what is best to feed my Spunky and when and how often. Any info is greatly welcome!! Thanks

Hi there rainbowfeathers,
I don't have lorikeets any more but do still H/R bubbies. I use a good lori dry & lori wet there are a few goods ones on the market as well as fruit. My birds also enjoyed bottle brush flowers. I like to wean my bubs onto as much variety as is possible that way they recognize new foods as good to eat. I must say we don't have any finicky birds here.
Robyn.

I feed wet mix everyday, and make sure they have a bowl of dry as well to nibble on. I give mine an apple a day LOL as well. They love anything sweet so when I have I give bananas, rockmelon, grapes, oranges, celery, carrots all that type of food. Also I give grevellia and bottle brush flowers.

I feed my Poopy pretty much the same, although he seems to love Brocoli - i think he just enjoys pulling it apart more than anything. He'll start calling out anytime he hears a noise that even slightly resembles the noise of a food packet being opened, lol.

I feed my lories on wombaroo mix, but may soon investigate other options as it is not cheap. I give them fresh wet mix every morning and they pounce on it very quickly. The bowl is empty by the days end but I dont give them anymore till the following morning. I follow the directions on the packet as to how much to give each bird. ( I have a rainbow and a musk who share a cage, and another rainbow in another cage) I think it is easy for birds to get to fat if they have too much mix.
I alway provide water for them, although being lories they use it to have a bath in! It gets rather disgusting pretty quickly. like other owners I give them nectar flowers when I can. They have a very sweet tooth and prefer fruit to vegetables, but I have discovered they do like the greens I give my other birds. Also, for a treat, they get meal worms. They really love them. I think they must be the lory equivilent of a Mars Bar Yuk!
They also try and raid other birds cages in search of sunflower seeds, but I believe these are not good for them so they are not allowed to help themselves to too many.

When I had more Lorikeets I started to make my own mix, and although I only have 2 now (the others helped themselves out of their cage) I still do. I put it into ice cube trays and freeze it. I give them one cube each (about a dessertspoon each) and thaw in the microwave. I use 1/2 the mixture for dry and 1/2 for wet mix.

I actually freeze the pasion fruit pulp for my birds ..... when I get it and thaw it out for them when needed. My birds love it especially the ekkies.
When I had a lorikeet, I fed him a wet and dry mix as well as fruit/veges etc
Hey Big Bird you have had a few name changes lately
