Hey Birdlover76. Scaly face does spread to other birds but is very easy to treat, there are alot of home remedies you can use. I usually just use vaseline and rub it on my budgie's feet and beak. Hope this helps!! Regards Crush

Unfortunately scaley legs and beak is an infestation of mites that hide behind the diseased scales or sometimes around the wing tips and vents if your whole flock has it then you need serious help from an Avian vet who will treat it with either Avomectin Moxidectin Ivermectin or some breeders use Paraffin oil or vaseline to smother them to death but i think you are a little more advanced and need pro help! all the perches and cages will be infested now also! My budgies suffer from this complaint now and again as i think most colony's of budgies do, It's easily and effectively treated with paraffin painted on the effected area with a small paint brush, a couple of applications will do the job.

is it good stuff and does it clear it up promptly?
Also the stuff from petstores or vets is that any good or is the parrafin oil better?
any advice on that would be greatly appreciated

The Paraffin oil is cheaper and works just as well and don't panic it's quite common in budgies it will clear up after a couple of applications .

As I said it is quite common on colony bred budgies and it one thing you have to check for all the time I have just had a hen with it appear in my aviary for no reason and I have treated it and it will go no further. My birds are all young birds and never had trace of it a week ago then this one hen just happened to show up with it, now I bred this hen and she was fine nothing has changed it just happened.,
