RSPCA Birds Can YOU help give a home?

Hey everyone I'm just renewing a list of the RSPCA birds needing your help.

Can you please check in maybe once a week and see if you can help? They don't ask alot for birds

Great job posting this! I actually looked at this today and thought of the Burke Parrot. I will put another post in to ask for people's experiences but I think I'll go and have a look tomorrow.

I have been told that the RSPCA in Vic does not allow you to adopt Birds. if the bird is considered a native (even if it has a ring on it's leg) it can not be adopted out which is said. One of the reasons I do not take any budgies I find attached to my avairy to the RSPCA anymore as they put them down now I attempt to find owners, rehome or allowed them to live in my avairy (after health checks and quaratine of course)

That's sad Angelic. I doubt the pound here takes birds either - it's run by the council so it probably follows the 'If you found it, it's your responsibility' line somewhat.

It really sucks I found a really nice Lutino Cock on my avairy one day and I said to them that if no owner can be found then I would take him and they said fine gave me a case number and told me to call back in 8 days. I called back in 7 and was told that as he was deemed unfit for re release (get he is not a normal green there fore would be killed in the wild) and if no one came forward for him then he would be put down I tried to find someone to go into the RSPCA and say that he was theirs on the 8th day but I could not it was so sad

For some reason I never thought that the RSPCA did birds.... I am getting a new aviary soon and will be happy to go to the RSPCA to fill it. Thanks for posting the links

Wow, i never knew that.
I once had a peachface come to my avairy to court one of mine (which i only had as it had no toes at the petshop) I check notice boards regularly for any bargains and there was never a missing bird notice so i kept it. I sortof felt a bit guilty, but if they simply put birds down im glad i did now.
Both of them are out on a property with my auntie, and have bred i believe.

Does anyone know of a parrot sanctuary in Perth? I have contacted loads of organisations and nobody does or knows of one. I am looking to find a mature budgie for my Alice my widow budgie later in the spring/summer. Not to breed, just for someone to keep her company and talk to her in her own language.

have you tried your local vet for some information?? They might know someone. Or even the petshops?? If you don't want to breed then I would make sure it is the same sex as Alice........a hen. ;D

Thanks people I have found two people who take in unwanted birds and try to find homes for them. I was also searching for the info so I could fill in the WA section of this info on another site. When both the people clear me to mention their names, I'll post here in case someone on this site can use it. None of the vets I spoke to would help with "second hand" birds. I work in the aged care/health area and it worries me that when "grandpa" gets sick or dies and the family don't want his cockie, where do they put him. How hard it must be for a parrot that has been someones constant companion to suddenly out in a cold cage, fed the basic diet and left alone to die of malnutrician and loneliness. We must have somewhere these birds can go and find another loving home.
Yes when I come to find a buddy for Alice, I will try to get another "lady" as no bloke bird could tolerate or stand up to the pushy little woman!

im thinking of adopting this guy

I'm not sur ewhat they do with birds - I would think they would just keep them until adopted.  I do know with dogs and cats that some get euthanised  - mostly those that fail the suitability as a pet test - aggressive etc.   Have you asked them?  Galahs can be great birds to have, plenty of personality and a happy attitude to life.  If you will be able to look after him as a pet then go for it.

When I went in the avairy with him he just came strate over and stuff. She said he isn't quite as friendly or tame as he use to be because he hasn't been getting much attention. He Deffinently seemed excited to get a visitor, came over saying "what you doing" it was so cute.
I know their pet one inside took a liking for me. He just followed me around until I picked him up then when I put him back it just all started again. The person looking after him had to actually put him away for me to leave cos he tried to follow me outside...
