Do you sex pink bourkes the same as normal (that is with the blue eyebrows)? I have one pink who doesn't have any blue and want to buy a mate for him/her. I am thinking its a girl. Thanks.
When I had pinks the males never got the blue brow. Sex them pretty much same as for the Rosa's. Although generally I've had the most success sexing them by whistling to them and hearing their replies.
lol don't be sorry i am right there with you ;D i say never be sorry to ask a ? as you will never know you you don't ask and there are no silly ? if you ask me . j
Laraine, Pink cocks tend to be darker pink in the head & wing colouration, very like the depth of colour of the Rosa. No blue on the pinks at all. You could try and spread the wing out and see if there is a white wing stripe under the wing. Now from memory pretty sure it runs along the underside of the flight feathers. If there is that would indicate a hen, no stripe for Cocks. But that would also depend on the age of your bird. You just might have to send a DNA sample away to be sure. I know when i had them the cock was a brighter pink than the hen. They are pretty little birds thou.
Thanks for the info Robyn, I'll have a look under the wing tonight. He/she is a pretty bird and is split to a Creamino, so would love him/her to breed.
Is that pink/cream or is there another colour cremino. Not 100% sure but a pink hen can't be split has to be visual, think it might be sexed linked. All my info is dated around 1996.
Laraine, did a bit more checking for you last night regarding your Bourke, have been told it is best to have the DNA done on the pinks because they are so hard to sex if you only have 1 bird. Sorry i know this is not much help for you.
What a pretty bird, mine is not as good looking as that one. Will try and get a piccy. I stayed away from pink bourkes at Fairfield yesterday, but as I was leaving I spotted an unusual coloured one. It was grey with quite a lot of blue on it (top of head, wings) the fellow said it was split with a split pink and a split grey. So I bought it (only $30). Its a male so was thinking might get mine sexed and perhaps put them together....... If not there always Castle Hill in July. LOL
The new Bourke that I bought on Sunday has pink eyes. It is split to just about everything the seller told me which is why I bought it. I haven't seen pink eyes in a Bourke before, can anyone tell me which ones have pink eyes?

Pink Bourke's have red eyes Laraine, they are bred by crossing Rose with Cream Bourke's they are sexed the same way as Rose Bourke's, Red eyed birds often dislike bright and intense light and shaded or darker aviaries produce the best results in breeding.
Rose Bourke's are difficult to sex as the male doesn't have the blue brow, however he is usually darker on the face than the hen, they also develop increasing grey tones on the face, head and shoulders as they grow older.

This morning I sent away a DNA sample for the pink budgie that I am hoping to put together with the new split boy. Fingers crossed its a girl they would make beautiful babies with all their splits.
