Thanks Robyn, now if I could only get them to eat fruit and veggies, it's so frustrating. I bought some kiwi fruit last night as I thought that may tempt them. I just take out rotting fruit and veggies everyday as they just leave it. Is there any irresistible thing that the grass parrots like? Leanne

All my turks & scarlets relish the greens mix I feed them daily. I sprout a seed mix then add greens (bok choy pak choy, brussel sprouts, cabbage, silverbeet etc) and carrot, corn & peas. The peas & carrot are only nibbled at, but the rest is taken eagerly. The greens are all put though the food processor before being mixed with the rest. All parrots will relish the sprouted mix.

Thanks Greg. I think I have worked out what I was doing wrong as well. I put some kiwi fruit in there and some broccoli and it's been so long since I had parrots I forgot that they pick up their food to eat with their feet as I watched Tilly doing it yesterday. So my chunks have been too big so they drop them all the time. When I feed the canaries, they just pick at it so size isn't a problem, silly me and turks only have little feet as well. How do you actually sprout the seed as well, I always mean to ask that? Leanne

Hi Leanne, I soak the seed mix for 12 hours (in water) then sit it, in a container, rinsing at least twice a day until sprouted. It is recommended that after the sprouting is complete to then soak in an anti bacterial solution again prior to feeding. In cooler weather the sprouting process takes longer, but with practice you learn how long it takes to have ready to feed. The sprouted seed is at its nutritional best while the sprouts are less than 6mm long. Bests Greg

Now I am getting frustrated. Billy and Tilly don't want to seem to want to eat any fruit and veg I put in the aviary I put fresh fruit and veg everyday and nothing seems to be eaten. I have the most expensive grit I could get with all added minerals etc and they do enjoy the bird treat sticks but won't touch anything else including sprouted seed. Do I need to worry? I have tried everything people have suggested turks like but they are just 2 fussy little birds.

I know what you mean about birds not eating fruit. I bought a female Rainbow Lorikeet 2 weeks ago, and she won't touch anything except the wet and dry mix. I have tried apple, rockmelon, grapes, pear, orange and celery. I asked the Vet about it this morning and he says she wasn't fed fruit as a baby and now won't accept. He suggested getting tinned apples and mixing a small amount in the wet.
I give my other Lorikeet half an apple every day and he loves all fruit.

Well I think that's the answer. I put some celery leaves in and Tilly sort of picked at it. I guess your right Laraine, they probably both weren't fed on fruit/veggies as both came from large scale breeders (nice aviaries though) but both probably didn't have time to supply fruit and veg every day to all the aviaries.
