My local club, the Sunshine Coast Avicultural Society, has been lacking a decent magazine and web site for several years so when I closed our shop and retired I decided I would take on the job of editing the magazine and also provide a decent web site. Our previous one was set up around 10 years ago by a member who subsequently left the area, and as a result hasn't updated the site sine 2003. I've been doing the magazine since late last year and finally got around to registering a domain name and arranging the hosting of a new website a bit over a week ago. That is now running at www.scas.org.au as a temporary site until I decide on a more permanent design, although I prefer a rather minimalistic approach to website design so I might not change it that much My first web pages were written in 1995 when there was no choice about being simple! One of my principle aims with the site is to provide good articles out of our magazine so that they are available to a wider audience than just club members. As is usual with club magazines the editor (me) is writing most of the stuff and if I am spending the time writing I want to feel the result is reaching a wider audience! Anyway have a look, and particularly have a look at the articles - there are three up now, one on sprouting seed and two about hand raising babies. The next to be added will be on providing calcium which will appear probably tonight. cheers, Mike

thank you Mike for sharing your link and articles. The sprouting seed one has made great sense to me especially with the pictures , I will now have a go at doing this finally! The hand raising ones were great too, although I don't think I will ever have 'babies' to hand raise

Hi Mike. Just wanted to say thankyou for writing that baby birds need to learn how to fly well before they are clipped! I don't know if you remember, but our quaker, Sonic, was clipped by the breeder (without my permission) very badly. Just one wing, and some secondary flights were cut, too. It has taken over a year for her to molt out the bad clip, and she took her first flight yesterday. I am so proud of her! And she is starting to build her confidence, which is fantastic.

The latest articles added are one on wing clipping, and also one that provides information for a new first time bird owner, it used to be the hand out we gave new bird owners in our old shop. scas.org.au/html/articles.htmlAlso on the site are some bird related videos linked to at scas.org.au/html/video_links.html which include some old favourites but maybe some of you have not seen them yet. More will be added as I re-locate them (my long list of these sorts of videos was lost in a hard disk crash) cheers, Mike
