Hi Guys Me again! Sorry! Ok, so can you guys tell me what the fine lines are caused from in my Eckies tail? They are almost like a "crease" for better description? Do they mean something, are they something for me to worry about? There is a few of them straight across on one of my Eckies tail feathers.....like side to side.....very fine.....but definately there!! I know a picture would be better, but it's pouring with rain here at the moment and I really wanted to put this out there...... Any idea's guys? Thanks heaps Flossy

Hi Guys Me again! Sorry! Ok, so can you guys tell me what the fine lines are caused from in my Eckies tail? They are almost like a "crease" for better description? Do they mean something, are they something for me to worry about? Do they go right across the feather or half the feather - from quill out to the side? There are two main causes, either lice or stress. You are probably aware of what stress marks look like - usually a discolouration across the feather and on several feathers at the same length down the feather Lice marks are due to the feather being chewed by the lice - that is what they feed on. It is a thin trail going usually from the quill out to the margin of the feather - when held to the light the feather is seen to be thin, letting light through, in a narrow strip only a millimetre or less wide. I'm not doing a good job of describing this!!! I have been looking through photos I have on the computer for an example of what I mean - but can't find any. I seem to have all sorts of gory photos but somehow don't seem to have taken one of feather damage due to lice. In the shop I always had some lice damaged feathers to show people what to look for but I never kept any. I'll have to have a close look at my aviary birds and see if any have some lice damage in the morning. Meanwhile I look forward to a nice sharp close-up photo of the offending feathers on your Eclectus. cheers, Mike

Oh and I should add....side to side....kind of running across the feather....as if I had folded the feather up.....nah, I'm not saying the right either...lol. As you always tell me....a picture speaks a thousand words!! ;D
