Hubby is talking about getting an aviary. He's not sure what he wants in it, but has suggested sun conures or Quakers. Not sure how they would do in an outdoor aviary in Sydney's climate. Any advice on that would be very welcome.

Robyn i have both although i don't breed the Quakers any more. Suns are terribly noisy at breeding time. Just get a pair that you love the most.
The thing is if you start with 1 aviary more will follow trust me. i have 18 aviaries of various sizes. ;D And don't worry about them being outdoors Sun Conures sleep in their nest box everynight anyway. Parrots are a lot tougher than we give them credit for.

I have both. My quakers are notoriously noisy when another bird goes near their nest! And they don't like strangers, they are actually better guard dogs than my ringnecks! My suns, well just plain noisy anytime, but what a beautiful noise. I love 'em! It all depends on how good you get along with your neighbours.

I agree with all the above comments. Quakers are territorial and are fantastic guard dogs! They sure let you know when someone is around. They also sleep in their boxes at night. I have a few pairs and wow, when they go off together, look out! lol. Suns are stunning - and are so noisy! that I had to sell mine. BUT I am in the process of getting another pair, as I adore them. Personal preference, but aviaries are like Pringles....you can't just stop at one!!

I agree, I'd have more if I had the room. Can you have more than 1 pair of quakers in the same aviary? My problem is that I have 3 pairs of Green Cheeks but have been told I can't have them in together so have a big problem with space. I'm hoping to get a pair of each next, if I have a good breeding season.
