Most here will know I have a pet pair of African Greys, and of course the hope is that they will one day breed for us and we will have the pleasure of hand rearing little baby Greys - well everyone needs a dream to aspire to Ernie is now 6 and Jamila is 5 so they are officially old enough this year, and so they have gradually been introduced to a nest box over the last 12 months, with the box being in their cage for over a month now. And, finally, there is some action in the box - Jamila is spending an increasing amount of time in the box scratching around and chewing up the pine shavings. She was previously chewing up newspaper into little strips on the bottom of her cage, but that has decreased as the box activity has increased. Also Ernie has always regurgitated and fed her since they were babies, but in a fairly "amateur" way but in the last few days he has progressed to the serious full body motion stuff, so it looks like the hormones might just be building up. We have a lot of fingers crossed - or at least as many as old age and arthritis will allow The general opinion I have from my US friends is that pet greys rarely breed, and if they do it isn't until much older - but we shall see. Some photos follow - the first is one seen before, of when they were first introduced to a their box, back in the middle of last year, while the second two were taken on this last weekend. The dark lines in the second one are cage bars - it was shot from outside their cage. cheers, Mike

hope you get another bird soon!! you see what happened with our last baby was that he flew away (my fault!! ) my hub was more worried about the $$ flying out but a min later his feelings set in. pedro is my last chance .... and believe you me things have changed. even though we have certain rules and habits in place now i still feel on edge about the whole thing. at least with a ring it can't fly away lol!

Any exciting news yet mike? No, nothing yet Jack. Jamila still spends a lot of time scratching around in the box, but no signs of mating, and in fact ther eis a bit of a moult going on. However they could breed anytime through the summer so I hope when this moult finishes they may get serious since she continues to work the box. Don't worry, if anything does happen you won't need the Internet to find out!!!! cheers, Mike
