I am new to this. My step father passed away and left me his birds. He has 2 Kaks, 2 Cockatiels and quail. His avairy is built in and I have purchased an avairy that is 1x2.5x1.8mtrs. Will this be sufficient and will they happily live in a mixed avairy. Currently the are house together with a seperator. Quail in with the Kaks.
I understand they may need to be seperated to breed but for day to day housihng I am wondering what issues to look for.

I see you have posted the same question in various areas, but I will only reply here, where you started your own thread on the subject.
Kakarikis and cockatiels can coexist. although some kakis can be quite bossy, and certainly if they are wanting to breed then it is best to keep them separated. Cockatiels are not aggressive birds and it is the Kakarikis that could cause problems.
1.0 x 2.5 is small for two pairs when one pair is as active as Kakarikis. If your pair of Kakarikis is well behaved then it should be acceptable - just - but if they decide to be bossy then you would need to get a second aviary. Dividing the existing one into 2 would result in too little space for active birds like the kaks.
I would put the quail in with the Cockatiels - Kakarikis spend a lot of time on the ground feeding, while cockatiels rarely do, so the quail are more useful in with the cockatiels.
cheers
Mike

Mike, Appreciate your re0ply. I spoke to my sister today who is going to take the cockatiels so will only be the Kakarikis. so I am happy about that. I was worried about the size factor but was willing to get a second aviary, just I wanted to relieve mum of the workload as soon as possible. All is looking good so far and another pair added to out menagerie of canaries and budgies.. All seperate of course Will be keeping my eye of this board whilst doing a lot of reading and learning. Thanks again.. Chris
