That makes sense. I didn't know that at first and was going off my first experience. About 3 weeks after taking Romeo in, I got him a female Galah since he was skiddish of me. She was just an aviary bird and not hand reared. They took to each other almost right away. She played hard to get for about two days. He kept trying to get close to her and she would fly to the other side. They never argued though. Next thing I know they were preening each other. So with that incident, I assumed that's how it worked. Well the aviary I had was a temporary one until I got a proper one. It had a full size door and one day she got right past me and flew out. I was devastated. I had only had her about two weeks. She sat across the street in trees for 3 days and they would talk back and forth to each other. Then she stopped coming around. I couldn't get her back because she wasn't used to being handled.
So with that being my only experience, I assumed that he would get used to another. After that, Romeo became attached to me. About 3 months later I went on a weekend camping trip and when I came back, Romeo was mad at me for two days because I had not been around. So I figured maybe it would be best if he had a companion because I will take more camping trips. Well that didn't work. He wanted to kill her. Luckily, I got her from a private seller who had many birds and was willing to take her back.
I may try again one day if I get a decent cage to have them nearby each other.
