Do Budgies need seed? With my sun conure, seeds are a training treat only, but I've read where Budgies need seed as around 25% of their diet. Is that right?
Thanks in advance.

They don't need seed and will do just fine on suitably sized pellet foods plus vegies. However they do enjoy seed and will actually do OK on a budgie seed mix and not pellets as long as they get a good supply of fresh foods. They also love fresh prunings form shrubs such as Grevillea, Bottle-brush and wattle - give 2 or 3 times a week if possible.
cheers,
Mike

Thanks avinet. I just only happened to feed my budgies just seed but will try pellet foods and vegies. My friend told me just seed is enough for them.

Seed is not enough for any parrot/bird. A seed only diet can shorten a birds life span, not drastically but still. Try convert them to pellets and always offer fresh fruits and vegetables, you're right, seeds should only be used for training treats. Good luck with your budgies
