Hi Mike, Just wanted to let you know I did order one of Barbara Heindenreichs books and her three videos as you suggested. My little baby grey should be ready around March 11th. I'm going to purchase a 36" wide x 53" long cage. Do you think that will be adequate? Also, I saw pics of your African Greys they are majestic! If they are able to talk when might they start talking? Thanks Montana

Thanks Montana Hi Montana The cage should be fine - my two are in a 38" x 24" cage, and that works OK for the two of them. Talking seems to start anytime from around 4 months onwards, some even earlier. My male started talking at around 4 months, and is an excellent talker - but only in front of people he knows, hardly ever in front of strangers. He copies mine and my wife's voices so well we often think the other is in the room when they are elsewhere. He also whistles very well, and will often make up his own tune. Our female in contrast rarely talks - just not interested in doing so. When she does say something it is very clear, but while the males main way of entertaining himself is with vocalizing to himself, the female is more a doer than a thinker. You are about to embark on a fantastic experience - owning a grey is like nothing else cheers, Mike

If you have a bigger bird, you don’t want to get a cage that won’t allow it to move around. If it is a smaller bird, you probably won’t want anything too big. It’s also important that you buy a cage that is easy to clean.
