Hi guys,
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm worried about Charlie, my LB corella. Before I went away (it wasn't planned), he was pretty good if I wandered in and out of the room- occasionally he'd squawk, but he was getting much better about not. I didn't get the impression it was an anxious thing, more an obsessive thing.
However, since I've been back, he has been hugely agitated if I leave his sight. I think it's a frantic kind of anxiety/worry.
I was sleeping in my room- his perch was in room outside where he could still see me. My housemate went to put him to bed but as they approached my door, he LAUNCHED himself off her arm and came running in saying "hello". I admit, the whole thing was quite comical- with housemate running in after him, he ran under my bed and to the other side. I had only been back a day or so.
Then, maybe the next morning? Or a little while after that night anyway, I had gotten up and then gone back to bed (I'm not very well at the moment). He came running into my room asking to come up. He had been on his perch. I did lift him up and he calmed as soon as he was with me. Then I noticed he was bleeding under his wing.
Jumping off and coming to find me is one thing...but hurting himself in the process takes things to a different level and THAT concerns me.
Today, I just NEEDED to get out of the house. Charlie, again, was on his perch but it has now been wheeled to where it usually is (ie in view of my door, but not with the ability to see inside it. I went into my room to get changed and yet again, he squawked something terrible then, yet again, came running into my bedroom. As soon as he;s with me, he's fine. But when I was leaving, I just didn't feel cofortable leaving him in the house as I normally would, so I put him and his stand into the garage while I was gone so that should he have the need to jump off, he'd not a) hurt himself on the tiles (there's cardboard down on the floor in there) b) chew something he shouldn't -- when I was in hospital, one day he was here on his own and when my housemates got back to him, he was runing around the floor havng chewed a hole in the couch, all the keys off a lap top and the tv remote control.
Today also, he fell asleep and I snuck off to have a shower...I heard him once he woke up, squawking and frantic.
He starts to panic the moment I walk away from him. I can't go to the bathroom without the whole neighbourhood knowing!
I'm sure it's because he's worried I won't come back again but it's getting a bit too much now and I'm just not sure how to handle it. It's horrible knowing he's so anxious.
Before I went away, he was just getting used to me walking in and out and not making noise and like I said, it was a whole different feel.
