Hey all, I trust you are all having a fantastic week? I am attempting to sorce a baby hand raised Major Mitchell. I am needing to pick up around August September. I am located in Brisbane and would like to pick up rather than have the bird freighted. If you can assist me with my search I would love to hear from you. Regards

Breeding season is usually the spring for Majors, so babies are very unlikely to be available in September.
Egg laying in SE Qld normally occurs in late August or September, and eggs take just under 4 weeks to hatch. The babies will take their first flight around 7 weeks after hatching, and be finished with hand rearing about 4 weeks later. So that means that babies are not normally available weaned until around late December. And note that a license is needed to keep one in Queensland.
If you are thinking of a Major as a pet bird be aware that they often make poor pets. They may be sweet and pretty as a baby but most are aviary birds by 12 months old since they turn very nippy as they mature.
cheers,
Mike

I also have to agree with Mike.
Nathan i used to breed them but don't anymore. I still have a pair that haven't bred for me. But that's fine. They are in the aviary, the male talks & i did hand rear him. It's a case of look but don't touch with him.LOL. But they are so beautiful they are here to stay.
