OK, so yesterday one of my princess parrots bit my budgies toe , and it was purple and bleeding like hell it was bleeding continuously for about 10 mins. it finally stopped and he had lost heaps of blood. I'm really worried about him cause hes breathing really fast, his toes purple with a big cut on it and stuff
I'm just worried something will happen from him losing all that blood, any help would be good

Sorry I wasn't able to reply sooner to your budgie issue - I went into hospital yesterday morning for a hernia operation and just got home at lunchtime (successful operation).
By now I guess there isn't much I can suggest - he will have survived OK or perhaps unfortunately the shock was too great for him.
For future reference the big danger is blood loss and so fluid replacement is important - ideally using an electrolyte fluid or drink such as one of the non-fizzy sports drinks. Use a dropper to put a few drops into the bird's beak repeating as needed depending on how much blood has been lost.
Assuming the budgie is OK now, there is a chance that he may lose a toe - depending where exactly the bite was. It depends on whether the blood supply to the toe has been cut off. Losing a toe isn't a big deal, but if he is to lose it then it will likely turn black over the next few days and will eventually fall off. If you can get him to an avian vet then if necessary the vet will be able to remove it (at a price!) but generally such injuries fix themselves over time.
Hope the bird is OK today
cheers
Mike

First of all, glad to hear the op went well Mike And exactly as you said Mike, the bleeding usually stops and the toe will come off. I have had toes removed by our vet here, and she doesn't charge. It isn't hard to do yourself you just need something sharpe. Another old remedy we use is...............wet soap. Dab the sticky part of wet soap to the bleeding digit, (the underside where the soap has been resting on something), and that usually stops the bleeding.

If it was bothering the budgie then a vet could amputate it but from the sounds of it just leave it alone cheers, Mike
