Hi all,
I'm looking to purchase a H/R Sunnie in the near future and was just after a little info. Firstly is it just about time for these little guys to be coming onto the market? I live in Sydney and have been browsing Petlink and gumtree the last month or so and the only ones I seem to come across are in QLD so I'm assuming as it starts to warm up down here they should start to become available?
Secondly any advice with regards to these little beauties would be appreciated. I'm really looking for our next bird to be a real part of the family (have two young boys) so I want to make sure the bird is suitable and that we are doing everything in our power to make sure it's happy.
Thanks

Hi Loxo....I know someone in Wollongong with a young DNA'd male for sale in roughly 4 weeks? He is gorgeous, I was playing with him today. Let me know if you would like her details. Thanks.

Baby Sun Conures can be incredibly cute, and will often make a great pet but there are a couple of things to keep in mind. They will often form a very strong bond to just one person in a household, and you have no control over who they will pick. Often this leads to quite aggressive behaviour to anyone coming close to their chosen mate. To try to avoid this make sure everyone gives the bird equal attention - if it shows any signs of picking a favourite, then that person might need to back off a bit and the others increase their attention to the bird until things even out again. Secondly they can be loud - and it isn't a sweet chirp, it is a loud raucous call, and they do make excellent watch birds when strangers come to the door. Having said that it's time for a cute photo or two cheers Mike

Thanks Mike. I understand how loud they can be, originaly I was thinking of using my spare aviary to house a pair and possibly breed my own pet down the track but I just think they would be a little too loud for my backyard and might stretch the friendship with the neighbours a little too much. I thought an inside pet would be ok though as the noise won't really worry our household.
I hadn't really heard of the bonding aspect of their personality however. Thanks for that info, it gives me something to think about.
Cheers
