Hi All, My budgie Cloud has grey that appears when he is wet-had a bath. the water is clean with no 'additives' in it. At first is was only just visible but now it is quite noticeable, all his blue feathers appear to have a grey 'over-colour' on top of his blue when he is wet. This grey is not visible when he is dry... I was wondering what this could be and if it is normal? I was curious as the grey has become stronger... I'll post some pictures when I can get some (He doesn't sit still enough for any good ones so far...)
Thank in advance ;D

How old is he? I suspect it is just some sort of refraction of light due to the water on the feathers. Perhaps the darker grey might be a result of different amounts of preen gland oil on the feathers. As always a photo or two will help, although I suspect such an effect will be difficult to photograph successfully.
cheers,
Mike .

I'm not sure what I am supposed tobe seeing - do you mean the grey fringe to some of the feathers on his back? Of the discolouration to the ends of his flight feathers and tail?
If it is the first then that seems like normal markings, while the second - more of a yellowish colour - looks like some dirt, possibly from climbing around the cage and them rubbing against the wire, and exagerated when wet.
I don't see any problem either way.
cheers,
Mike

You can't really see the grey unless he's seen in person- my camera doesn't show the grey... I knew about the grey markings- he's a greywing recessive pied spangle! ;D

I found out why the grey appears on my budgie. It seems to appear on all blue and white budgies that have baths...
