Hey all! This is my first post on the forum, sorry if I do something wrong...
Well after visiting bird and parrot parks I have been bitten by the bug! And would love to get some small Parrot.
I LOVE son conures!! However I have heard that they can be very noisy, I am living in a medium size house with neighbours all around and was wondering if it's possible to train these cute little guys to be a bit quieter.
Please also recommend some other similar cute little parrots for a beginner.
Thankyou!!

Hi and welcome to the Forum. Yes, Sun Conures can be loud and it isn't a sweet tuneful sound but a rather grating screech - at least to my ears. Some find it OK but I have never owned one because of the noise. I guess the first thing we need to know is whether any birds you get will be inside pet birds or aviary birds? Assuming you are wanting to have pet birds, and have never owned a bird before, then I always recommend a cockatiel as a first pet bird. Lovely nature, males can talk a bit while females are usually very affectionate. Not expensive - hand raised young bird should be in the $100 price range, and a good sized suitable cage also no more than $100. If you want something a little more exotic, then perhaps look at a Quaker or Green-cheek Conure (much quieter than a Sun Conure), Quakers can often be good talkers but Green-cheeks are not renown for their talking. Note that both of these are not available in Western Australia, but are allowed to be kept in all other states. A nice Quaker video is at while you can get an idea about Green-cheeks at www.youtube.co/watch?v=eCEgyj9sx0Mcheers, Mike
