Beginning of 2013 we purchased a breeding pair of Jenday conures 5-6 years old who supposedly breed 4 clutches a year. I know its not unheard of to buy from dodgey people but I do believe the gentleman we purchsed them from was honest. Until recently we havent been worried about them not breeding as the climate difference from where they come from to where they are now was considerably hotter...they come from Bundeburg to central NSW. Given the temps we have been enduring this past few months though doubt has set in lol. They are very close but have never seen them mate, we have tried different aviary styles and nest boxes and recently resorted to putting them near other breeding pairs (haha maybe that will encourage them just in case they forgot how !). Any suggestions please all our other breeding aged birds bred this year excluding this pair. They go into the nest box but no go. This pair are our ONLY pair of birds who solely eat pellets and fruit and vege as this is what they were used to .... pretty much after any suggestions to encourage this pair before hubby sells them on me Cheers

You wouldn't be the first to be sold a same sex pair. Surgical sexing is recommended because it allows the vet to see if there is any medical problem with the reproductive organs that might also be a factor. I spent two years trying to get a pair of Superbs to breed - and I knew with them they were a pair. Eventually a surgical examination showed the female had cysts on her ovaries - so I then knew why a supposedly good breeding pair had been sold. That is really the only thing that comes to mind - diet is fine, you have tried the standard stuff - change aviary change nest box etc. Actually i have always found the nest box is relatively unimportant - if a pair want the breed they will use whatever is available. cheers, Mike

Thank you ! Will look into this this week and let you know how i get on. Hubby says the same about nest box being not so important he figures if they want to breed they will breed anywhere.
Thanks again Cheers
