Hi there
We have a female galah who has been with us since 2 months old and now she is just over a year old. Up until now she has been a very happy bird, we have a routine for her and she spends alot of time out of her cage. Recently she has become very stressed if we leave the room and will just tweet and tweet and tweet and sometimes screams and it is becoming very annoying. Or she does it if she is in the same room as us but not on us. She has also started to bite my face and has never done this before. Does any body have any advice on how to stop this?

We have a female galah who behaves just like this. We had a parrot behaviourist come, and said our galah was being very ‘hormonal’ and beginning to think of me as a mate. The advice was to ensure the way we interact with her is not the way a mate would. So limit time on shoulder, and being ‘face-to face’ (I use to let her nibble my face, which is just what galah mates tend to do). The environment in her cage and where she plays inside was also very conducive to nesting (lots of dark boxes for her to crawl into soft towels to hide and play under, etc. The advice to us was to change her environment to encourage foraging behaviours rather than nesting behaviours. So more foraging toys and activities, and remove any things (such as boxes, soft towels etc. that encourage nesting behaviours. We have only just started the process, so can’t yet comment on whether it has helped! Good luck.

hi guys i know a galah that had been abused then became lost now she has anxiety and has to be on u. she always bites you - normally on the face if she can;when u try to get her off i'd try slowly leaving her alone for longer periods, and then rewarding her when she doesn't scream hope this helps, Pia
