My parents received a male Princess Parakeet who was 4 at the time from a "friend" of theirs as he didn't want him anymore, the parakeet originally came from a pet store.
Bob is his name, I'm going to make a long story short; bob was abused for most of his life, we had him for about a year now, before he use to get splashed with water or hit with a stick through his cage whenever he made a noise, so he doesn't really trust humans and despises hands (he won't bite you, he'll just squeak and squawk loudly) He can't fly..due to loosing a lot of feathers... we try to let him out at least once per week but he refuses to get out of his cage and if he does come out he'll sitting somewhere high.
Bob is in mine and my boyfriends room for a while now, we got him a new cage and new things to explore. Bob has plenty of toys in his cage which he doesn't touch, however from time to time he might have a little play with them. Bob doesn't seem to like fresh veg or fruit so he is on a seed diet as he won't touch fresh veg or fruit at all plus he's quiet a picky eater (since we had him and he's been in my care Bob has gonna a lot chubbier, before he seem underweight a bit)
Advise that i want is...how can i tame Bob to at least let my hands get closer to him? also I've been thinking about getting him a mate (NOT TO BREED) because he seems lonely most of the time, we interact with him as much as possible but i think getting him another kind of his species will do better, but due to his age I'm not to sure how he'll get on with a younger male.
