do you have any pictures??? I will be down in Brisbane on 5th February...........daughter has Qld Volleyball State trials. I could be very interested in him. Is he handleable??? I would want to be able to make a pet out of him, but probably have him as a mate for Rani if she likes him. But even as breeders I would love to still be able to handle my birds. I also need to "speak" to my hubby as I was not really expecting to buy another one until later this year.

Hi Tracey, The baby alex's hatched on the 22nd Nov. 2005. It was the parents 2nd nest and I always let her rear 2 babies herself. So I didn"t handle the bird in the nest only when I put a ring on it and took a bit of blood for sexing. The Mum doesn't let me go anywhere near the nest. I took the babies (2 boys) out of the aviary last weekend, they were lazy and called for food all day. I have them in a patio aviary now and they are eating well. I don't now how they will tame down without being handreared. I take my babies for handrearing at 20 days old. The parents produce very lovely babies, I have also kept one of the boys I handreared from that nest and he is lovely and hasn't bitten once. I sold a 8mt old parent reared last year and the people who brought him said he tamed down nicely.(I would have like to have seen that). I would not have liked to have tamed down a Alex that age. I personally would only like a handreared bird for a pet, I haven't got the time to train a parent reared bird and I hate to be bitten. (One bite and that would be the end for me0

Yes that biting stage is what is worrying me. I have not had a non handraised baby for a pet for probably close to ..................... actually Bo my galah was the last one and she was 15 when she died and was a lovely pet, but the biting is something I do not relish the idea of going through again either. Rani was a biter even though she was handraised, but she is much better now, thank goodness, but at least she was used to me too. Looking forward to pics, you can pm me if you would prefer.
