My Tiel has a cut on her foot from my other bird biting her. It was bleeding and everything, I'm just wonderin what the best thing would be for it. Anything I should be washing it with?? It happened like 10mins ago. I've washed it under water and wiped it off, but was wondering if there's anything else I could do

Hi Lori & Specks, you can safely use Betadine on the cut, it will not do them any harm & this was recommended by my avain vet. Cheers Anna

Hi Polly, is there anything you could recommend to stop the bleeding if it is a bit more than a scratch but not bad enough to have to take it to a vet? Many thanks Anna

Hi Anna, This sounds a bit silly, but I use talcum powder, or if I don't have any, flour, for things like pulled nails that keep bleeding, it helps greatly with blood coagulation. I've never had a problem with infection if the wound is washed first.
Cheers Tony

I use a very week solution of Condy's crystals(buy a bottle from chemist not expensive) put a tiny bit in warm water till just pink. Ideal for all animals and birds stops infection and bleeding, good for bleeding wings and toenails etc. Told to me by a vet years ago. I always have it on hand, good for the kids too if they get cuts.

Corn starch is an old trick used by bird people for many years, and it works. there is also a product called Debrisol that is also good, it's in a pump bottle and not only stops the bleeding but puts a skin on the wound.
