I used to breed Fischer Love birds and Masks also so I am partial to both. I had Lutino Fischer's and Parino I found them the most social of the lot and would breed them again if I feel the urge.

I choose Nyassa .Not as common in Australia as they ought to be.They are also quite gentle to each other.Would also like to chosen Normal Peachface. But it is questionable whether there are many in Australia.Nearly all or maybe all so-called normals have other mutations mixed in them. The original peachface is not any green peachface but a specific green. I am leaning towards normal fischers at the moment but am interested to hear more about the nyasa species. I have had normal peachface before so i want something a little different.

I love the normal green mask lovebird. I had one for a pet which I handreared and he had a lot of character and was very affectionate. We lost him when he was about 2 years old he strangled himself in his happyhut.

Well, since you don't care for mutations and you don't want Peach-faces, and you don't want pets, then you should go with "normal" green Fischer's, but if you want rarer, well it's rarer in the USA, then go with the Nyasa. There is a lot more infomation out there on Fischer's however.

At first glance Nyasa and Fischers to me look very similar whats the easiest way to tell the two apart. Size doesnt help me.

There is some confusion between the Fischer's and the Nyasa, with some saying that they can't see any difference between the two. There is, which will clearly be seen in the following description - Fischer's lovebird: male and female: generally green with lighter underparts. Throat, cheeks and head dark orange running into a yellow upper breast, tail and wing coverts blue, naked eye-ring whitish, bill red, legs faded grey like in the galah, length 15cm. Nyasa lovebird; green, underparts and rump somewhat lighter, orange throat and forehead running into a coral pink crown, cheeks and lores down to upper breast, eye-ring white, bill orangish-red, legs blackish brown, length 13cm.

I would choose normal Fischer's Lovebird for you. Why do you say that?

Well, mainly because there's a lot more information at there about Ficher's than Nyasa. I know you had peach-faces before, but if you are still just starting out, the more information you can find, the better. Here is a link about breeding/ showing Fisher's from my friend Wendy. www.geocities.com/carolinaflight/CarolinaFlightAviary1.html

Thanks for the link Robert, I prefer the normal fischer to the red fischer (they look ugly IMO.) no offense to the breeder.

Whatever species of Lovebird you eventually acquire,I highly recommend you buy from a breeder who has concen about normals like you. Here in brissie at the Lovebird Society we have people concerned about normals, like you. Best Robert and Angel

I think it will be pretty hard finding a pure normal fischer rather than a pure normal nyasa breeder.
