They used to be available in the 1990's. I remember seeing them in a vet surgery around 1995 for the first time and was told they wer einmported form the USA by a company that only supplied vet surgeries and not pet shops. I did try them but they were expensive and didn't seem worth it at the time. Haven't seen them for several years so don't know if they are still available.
cheers,
Mike

Pet City in Brisbane were able to get them as a once off, last year. Hope they can get them in again. They are very good. Pet City now has www.beakappetit.com/index.html . Food from beakappetit is also on trueloveaviary. Also just4birds who is on this forum raves about beakappetit. You can see this in the links section. from Robert and Angel

For Rodney and Tamara. Avicakes and the Nutriberries are so hard to get in Australia, for some reason. They are so good. I am thinking about getting them from you. Didn't think it was legal.. best Robert and Angel

I am not sure that they would get past Australian customs. Australia has some of the strictest customs/quarantine laws in the world. The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) will remove any item that can be considered a threat, this includes plant and animal materials entering the country. Sometimes the receiver will be given the option to have the product treated, (fumigated etc) but I would assume that would pose a potential health risk for the birds consuming the product. The said products may be on an approved list or it might be able to get a permit to receive these items. But they are on the prohibited list for Australia. For future reference sake and any one who wants to know about what can't be mailed into Australia www.daffa.gov.au/aqis/mail/cant-mailI tend to get a little carried away when it comes to what can and can't be posted, it comes from working in a post office lol

Yeah - I used to get them from the petstore that Robert mentioned, but they had to stop importing them because of changes to the law, apparently. I think the problem was that it has egg in them. I'm going to do some cooking possibly today though to try and make something similar - if it works out I'll let you know what I did, haha.
But yeah - while you can send them, I don't think they'll actually get past customs here anymore, which is a shame since Jedi used to love them as a treat, Anath thought they were great and I'm sure Trouble would enjoy them too.

I emailed Lafeber, the company i the USA which makes them and they replied that they don't currently have an agent in Australia. So that explains why they have disappeared from the shops here.
Products such as that often have to go through irradiation if they are imported, so it may be that the importer they had decided it wasn't economic to bring them in with the additional costs.
cheers,
Mike

Thanks I made some myself.... well kinda... I mixed dried fruit, coconut, uncooked oats, crushed nuts and bird seed and blended it into little chunks then added peanut butter and honey and baked it for 18 mins and they were a hit. I read somewhere that thats basically all thats in Avicakes so i hope they taste the same?

I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to let everyone know that we got some nutri-berries while visiting the USA, only to have Australian Quarantine take it away from us. Not surprised, but at least now we know!
