I was driving down to my local pet warehouse this morning and about 200 mtrs from my house on the main road sitting on the median strip was a baby lorikeet, so i did a quick U-turn , not the cleverest thing to do on Forest Road on a Sunday Morning, and managed to pull up right oposite the little feller, made a dash across three lanes of traffic, I move pretty fast for an old guy, and picked him up. Once i got him/her back to the car and managed to extract my finger from it's beak, ouch I got it home and put the little one in a cage. It is quite calm and I would say used to a cage I have been feeding it LorieMix from a spoon so I guess it has been hand raised and it is sitting up as happy as a sand boy at the moment. I have set the cage up next to my all ready tame Rainbow Lorie and they are eyeing each other off from opposite sides of the cages at the moment. We had exceptionally high winds here in Sydney yesterday so maybee some one has lost a pet, Ill keep an eye open in the local paper and see if anyone advertises for it, if not I guess my Lorrie has got herself a little friend. I have no idea how old it is but it is a baby and can just fly I'll keep up the feeding with the lorie mix and see how the little one goes. John

Hi John, Lucky you where there to save the little guy..I saved a scaley from some magpies a few weeks ago..It is amazing how tame a wild one can be..I know this one was wild for the parents where there with him...He had his fight feathers plucked out from one wing.So this guy could not go with mum and dad...He is as tame as a hand raised one...Thats the thing with lory's...They can be mistaken for a lost one..And yes this one took food from the spoon straight away..And I did not get bitten from this one hehehehehe.. .. This little one has settled in just nicely I can actually stroke him/ her tonight and it is eating by it's self out of a dish, think it might be a keeper. I set it up in a cage next to my already tame Lorie and they are getting on so well together, talking to each other throught the bars and generally playing together, I'll leave them for a day then try them in the same cage and see wht happens.

I would just let them out together first..The cage you have your tame lory in my like the other one,but to share the cage could be another thing...What I would do is to use a totally different cage for them two. That ways there is not teratorial thing...I have a peach face that will play with a young one I have...But if he goes near the cage, that is a no no...

I am going to get them a new cage Natalie as i figured there may have been a territory thing going on, at the moment they seem to be hooking up together very nicely, I have to think of a name now.

Hey John sounds like someone lost a nice bird,I personally would quarantine a new arrival before placing it with others for at least a couple of weeks cheers Frank

ohhhh sounds like a cutey! Just like the youngn' (Kevin) that flew into our work window earlier this year.
I've had just fledged wild babies come into my care in the past, and compared to 'Kevin' they were as wild as they get, biting, screaming the whole bit. So I was pretty sure Kevin was h/raised pet that was lost and not a wild baby.
I'd quarantine the new bird as well. There's plenty of nasties out there, and you don't know what sort of condition he was kept in before. I've heard horror stories of people putting birds foudn in the wild in with their flock only to have the flock die off from some horrible disease or parasite.
Good luck with the new guy!
- Claire

I Think someone was looking after this little guy today, what does the Bible say, " not even a sparrow falls from the sky" If I had been in the middle Lane I would have misseed him Im pretty sure, but as it happened I was in the centre lane next to the medium strip and had just slowed down for the Traffic lights as they were red as I was coming towards then and then turned green as i got to them so I wasn't going too quick.

;D This is sort of the same way i got my Lory aswell. My mum found him down on the ground but he wasn't flying far. She was worried a cat would get him. So I rang around to see what was needed for him and if i needed a permit ect before taking him. does he have a coloured beak yet? as mine was young he still had the blackish beak but now changing colour. Lucky you found the poor little mite. ;D Also at least when u say you spotted a pretty bird on the side of the road theres no chance of getting hit over the head with a newspaper. ROFL. Oh and yeah mine was pretty tame aswell only took a day or 2 then he was like he had lived here all his life and had been H/R.

Hi Nova His beak is still black but I have to tell you he is so settled in here he is eating on his own, loves his bottle brush and grevillia and has stopped biting me and is sitting on my finger. He now responds to the up command and is quite happy to sit there and let me stroke him, he hasnt discovered his bathing water yet but Im sure it wont be long before he does.
