Hi all, I have a red collar pair ( certified ) that have been together since July with no sign of eggs yet. They don't have a Z box, just a normal tiel and a long tiel box. They love to play and sleep in them. I do have a Z box on order but could it be the weather? I thought they bred all year round. Are they fussy?

they can take a while to start breeding but once they start, you can't stop them a normal tiel box is fine, how old are they?

I have the same problem with a pair of musks. They are in and out of the nest but nothing is happening. I had the same thing with my rainbows when they first started but after they did they were good.

My Rainbow Lorikeets have been sleeping in their breeding box since March, but have made no effort to breed. It is a cockatiel box. I don't even know if they are a pair, I can't tell. We bought one pair and one died so we bought another pair - but really don't know.

The male is at least 2 yrs old and the female is about 15mths. I've seen her 'stand' for him, but he didn't get all the way on. What is the best type of nesting material? I put wood chips in for now as it was what I had

Hi Jacksprat, I have just recently purchased a pair of Scallies, the Hen is Olive split for Cinnamon, the cock bird is Nor/Cinn, i was advised by the breeder to use coco peat for nesting material, you can buy it in compressed brick form from Bunnings. If you use it be sure to get it without added fertiliser which some brands have. ALSO, when they have chicks, you must change the nesting material when the chicks are about 4weeks old because their faeces creates a very strong ammonia smell which sometimes kills them. Regards Leeann

Thanx, I'll stop being impatient and change the bedding. Didn't know that about the ammonia- very different from tiels!! I just have one concern about changing the nest box, don't the parents get protective and attack you? Mine aren't scared of me anymore and jump all over me when I'm in their avairy. It's kinda cute now, but it won't be if they don't want me there!!!

Yay!!!!!!!!!
I finally have an egg!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't even get to change the bedding. I noticed one broken on the avairy floor but there's one in the nest.
How long do they incubate??

Normally they will lay 2 eggs (rarely 3) incubation by the hen and usually about 25 days cheers Frank
