Hi, We are surrounded by neighbours that we don't want to upset with noisy birds. We do have a noisy cock bird (the hen's quiet) Eclectus at the moment and are thinking about purchasing some Lories (not lorikeets). My question is; What Lories are reasonably quiet?

My friend has a lorikeet but I do not know how noisy it is. I know it can talk. The native birds around here are very noisy..............and I can handle noise but sometimes they are defening, but there are hundreds of them in our trees at times. Congrats on the ekkies, I am partial to them myself ;D

No, my rainbows lories are not quiet. My friend has the smaller scalies and musks, they don't seem AS bad.

I have 4 in my aviary, they are not quiet, but not as noisy as my ringnecks. I have found that my Rosellas are probably my quietest birds.

I have a scaley and he is fairly quiet. He does not screech but does mimic all the local native birds. He is a great whistler and tends to spend the day whistling. Have a ring neck and she tends to screech more than anything else. I find my neighbours talk to chucky over the fence as he talks back to them all the time. Also have people whistling to him from their back yards and they keep you amused with their antics if you supply lots of toys for them. Chuckys favorite is a ping pong ball on a chain and he plays with that for hours on end. After having the scaley I would recomend them to anyone. My ring neck is only very young and am still waiting for the personality to come out so really cannot say much about her yet except she is noisy compared to chucky

I believe Aussie1 was asking about LORIES, NOT LORIKEETS.
I am not too sure as i have never owned Lories, i have had the pleasure of seeing Red Mollucan's and Black Caps and i must say, the Black Caps are both very nice looking birds and reasonable quiet. The person that had them also had Rainbow, Red Collared, Scaley breasted and Purple Crown Lorikeets, also, Sun and Janday Conures and i didn't hear a peep out of the Lories.

I thought "lories" was just short for "lorikeets". Just googled it and found out they are different but of the same family "loriinae". Lories are bigger, heavier with a squarish tail, while Lorikeets are smaller, slender with a long tapering tail. ;D ;D

lorikeets have the larger and longer tail while the lories are shorter. My friend has lorikeets who are not really noisy. He also breeds lories like popes and bishops which make the same amount of noise but it all depends on if it is handrared or just for breeding or aviary bred. ;D
