There is a family with two young coming to our balcony. I bought a bag of Harmony dry mix, put powder into warm water and mix. They adore it! Well, I am happy to feed them (total of 11 sometimes come) but one bag of this food is 6$ something and cant't last that long (500g). I own love bird and budgie and they have different diet. I know about lorikeets that they prefer liquid food, flower nectar, fruit. Can anyone tell me how to feed them the cheaper way? Harmony has cereals, sugar, vegetable oil, milk solids, vanilla powder etc. Can I get a few things and ground&mix them and offer birds? They love apples too (babies don't have idea how to bite yet .

Hey there Milly. My lorikeet was allergic to the Harmony mix, so I used to make his mixes for him. It works out cheaper as well. 1 packet of farax (baby food) 1/2 cup skim milk powder 1/2 cup glucose powder 1/3 cup maltogen 1/4 cup raw sugar Petial uses a mix that is very similar, which I grabbed off another forum for you 4 pkts of baby farex 500 grams Milk Powder 500 grams Dextose 500 grams Raw sugar 500 grams Rice Flour 100 grams Sustgen (Vanilla) Some people also do things like mix in baby apple or a small amount of juice when they're getting it ready to give to the birds. Keep in mind that these amounts are meant to be stored in a container and used over time. If you want to try some other fruits, pawpaw and pear were always well-received by mine, as well as lychees when they were in season. Good luck and have fun with your flock. :3

make sure you don't feed them too much so they they don't become dependet on your food for their daily meal.

Many years ago I used to feed the wild lorikeets too, after a while I got sick and tired of cleaning my verandah and the noise...........almost deafened me.
