Hi,
I have a lorikeet (Skittles) she is about 18 months, adorable little girl. Hangs out with me all night (during the day she plays in a large avary that she has to herself, and a quial named Pudgy)
Untill recently she was my only indoor bird. Untill I found the most adorable 10 week Cockatiel.
Any tips on how to get these guys to like each other. Last night i had them both out of their cages, and they just seemed to freeze up and watch each other. At one point when I brought them closer together, Skittles stood straight and arched her head in a sign of dominace. But come this morning she seemed less phased my our new friend. He to seemed a little more relaxed.
Any tips on what to do?
Thanks

I think if you monitor them being together they should be okay together but I havent had a lorikeet nor a cockatiel. the age difference maybe an issue however someone maybe able to help you out with this.. as long as they are in seperate cages you shouldnt have a problem.

Hi Bambi, I think give them some time to get used to each other in cages next to one another for a while. I think Tracey will give the best advice she has a irn living with a lorikeet, I'm sure she'll be on later to help

Thanks Jane. I actually rehomed the lori and IRN (found good homes and gave them away as they were given to me).
I had them housed together for a few months, they were never friends as such but they were in a big enough cage that they could tolerate being together. I found the lorikeet was much more bossy and sometimes really gave the IRN a hard time. The other hard part was they have different diets and it is not good for the lorikeet to eat too much seed and IRN's are seed eaters.
I myself probably wouldn't try to house them together unless they looked really comfortable with each other. Tiels are not normally very aggressive or normally very bossy ............ not like the lorikeets can be. Cage them next to each other and allow them out time together (supervised) and just see what happens.
I also housed a tiel with a galah and they never really became friends but tolerated each other.

Yeah I'd house them side by side rather than in the same cage for the same reasons that Tracey said - diet and that lorikeets can be such bullies.
