They are very pretty birds and love the last pic. I enjoy watching birds bathing. They seem to get so much pleasure from it. ;D

Hey all! Sorry for being quiet for so long (too much work, not enough free time). Anyways, my lorikeets have grown considerably and look very different from what they used to. Both developed their own personality, still have no idea about what sex they are! As you may remember from the original post, one of them has been attacked by a little dog and had one of the claws damaged. Since then, it has recovered nicely, though that claw has grown a bit sideways. What's been puzzling me all along, is their wings and tails. Hear me out on this: Sputnik, has grown feathers on only one wing, while not on the other. Buzz did not grow any feather on either of wings and his (or her) tail is very short and doesn't seem to be growing at all! Both birds have had their wings clipped, before I purchased them. I really don't understand the cause of this. About a month, after I got our lorikeets, I purchased largest cage I could find (almost 2 meters high and 170cm length) and I've been feeding them pellets, all sorts of fruits and I let them out at least twice a day. They both seem to be very happy and love to play. It's just their wings are not growing at all. Anyone cares to comment on that ? Thanks!

AHhh sometimes if the birds are young when they get there wings clipped ... it takes forever for them to moult and for there wings to grow back ... My sun conure took around 6 months or more before her wings starts to grow back from her very first clip .. also i must have missed this thread some where along the lines ... and i've only read page 2 of this thread and noticed you've said "dr marshall" which scares me to death .. I bet you also ended up with a realllly really nice bill from him also ... soo on that note ... the best avian vet in sydney to take lorikeets to is Jim Gill at canely heights or austral ...

Oh, then I guess not everything is lost. I hope both of my birds are going to get their wings/tails back!! Did you have bad experience with Dr. Marshall ? I haven't heard anything bad about him, though I have to say that he seems to be your typical "Health Specialist", where he'd literally spend 5 minutes, before trying to get rid of you As for his bill.... we'll let's put it this way, I don't think I could afford taking my birds to his place very often. Jim Gill, where is he and what in your opinion sets him apart from everyone else ?

Yeahhh its sweet ya still have your birds etc I wouldnt say i had a bad experience .... tho i did get the ripped off feeling ... and i've spoken with a number of people have been to him at least once ... and have walked out of there with spending around the same amount of money ... and also having all his products pushed onto them ... my cockatiel bill cost me around $400 and once i took the bird to another vet for a 3rd opinion ... i was told the bird didnt even have what i was told he did ... as for Jim Gill ... he breeds lorikeets ... and he will also give you all the time in the world to talk about ya bird and there problems ... there prices are pretty good ... only around $40 for a visit and if your bird has to go back .. its free .. he also handles all the birds like there his own ... He also has written a number of books about different kinds of parrots .... You can find him either at Canely heights - Shop 6 Harden Street 96049792 or at Austral - Edmondson Street 96069312 I personally wouldnt see anyone else besides Jim or Andrew at Canely heights ...

Thank you very much for the advice! Now I know where to go next time, my birds need to see a vet. It would be quite a distance though, as I am in Wahroonga.
Thanks again.

Ahhhh ... its probably only another 30/40 minutes from Marshall ... its probably worth it for the better service and price ... Alot of the time i take my birds to canely heights and dont even pay for the visit ... it just depends on what the bird needs ...
