ok thanks guys...... i am not planning on breeding anyway but its just good to know just incase they do end up being male and female...... i have not seen any of the birds yet, the breeder has her eye on one that would be right for me ( or so she says ) i just wanted a blue one and i wasnt sure on the other colour so she said the green that its friends with might be a good companion for it.. i will go with your advice but and pick 2 birds from different familys just to be sure in case they ever breed thanks for your help guys

no i dont have them yet and all this waiting is driving me nuts! i was supposed to get them a couple of weeks back but i rang the night before to get the address etc and she said that she wasnt happy to send them off yet as they had stopped eating ( she said that they were just starting to learn to fly and that its normal for them to stop eating so that they are lighter and so that they fly easier and that after a few days they start to eat again ) so she said maybe next weekend they will be better... so i waited another week then on the next friday she said that they still were not in the condition that she would sell them in as they had started eating again but not to her satisfaction... so now im waiting another week......... HOPEFULLY this weekend i will finally get my birds.... i hate waiting this long, it seems likes it been forever.... but i know its worth the wait... ( oh and in the meantime ive had an offer for an alex!!! i originally wanted an alex but because they were soo expensive - $450 i couldnt afford one so thats when i started looking at ringnecks... anyway the alex is hand raised and is only $200....... i was soo tempted to buy it but i feel obliged now to the ringneck breeder.. ) i had never heard of this lack of eating/flying thing before... man i have a lot to learn dont i?

yes it is normal for the babies to slow down when they fledge or start to fly, but it normally doesn't take too long for them to start to eat again.
Apache, I probably shouldn't say this, but if you really have your heart set on an Alex...........and if this one is a nice bird...............the breeder will always sell the babies to someone else............it is better in my opinion that you get what you really want and not settle for second best (not that IRN's are second best.........just it might not have been your first choice as you said). Just my honest opinion........but if you do decide to get the alex........you should at least tell the breeder in case she does have other people lined up to buy the birds..........just my honest opinion.

thanks for your advice vankarhi i know what your saying about getting what your heart is set at.. i wanted an alex for aggges... but now that i decided on the ringnecks im excited about them.. ( and i do worry about the size of the alex's beak with small fingers! ) i have not seen the alex in question, the lady from my work who told me about the ringneck breeder told me about he alex so i dont know a lot about that bird... as far as the ringnecks go... she has not advertised as yet so i am the only person who is getting a bird from her... i think i will stick with the ringnecks as dumb as it sounds seeing as i havnt seen my bird yet, i can imagine it and i cant wait to get it and i would be sad not to bring her/him home.... its just frustrating waiting! i want them now!!!! ( ok ok.. i want the alex too! )
