This morning I am doing my normal "rounds" with coffee in hand checking the aviaries and chooks etc etc.
Hmmm well my sweet little silver king quail hen (who had been sitting) is sitting a few feet from the nest site (under a few bricks) out in the open with the cock bird sitting beside her...heart failure thinking I have lost 1 of my quail hens!!!
Well I enter the aviary and this rotten quail just looks at me (hen) whilst the cock bird is trying his damdest to eat my toes (sooooo funny),anyway pick up the hen and lo and behold......................................I NOW HAVE 4 BEAUTIFUL QUAIL BABIES!!!!
Sorry no pics as camera is a loaner and I don't have the charger for it here.....they are soooooooooo cute and tiny.I have moved them indoors and into a cage they can't escape from with mum for a few days and than I will put mum back in the aviary and raise the babies myself.

That's great Seb I know what an acheivement quail babies are, they will lay hundreds of eggs and roll them around everywhere but trying to get them to sit still long enough to hatch is sooooo hard. Mine will sometimes sit about 14 days then get bored and wander off. By the way I think the rule is to remove dad quail now.

Hey everyone,
Sorry I haven't been around much but as I am on dial up until my new pc arrives I have chosen not to visit a lot of the sites/forums I normally would....hopefully will be back next week with a vengenance!!!
Anyway an update on my quail babies.
They have just turned 6 weeks old and are almost fully feathered, still have yellow heads.
My other hen (I run my quail in trios) also hatched 4 babies but alas only 1 has managed to survive till now (approx 3 weeks old).
Bottom of my aviary looks amazing with 3 adult quail running around with 8 chooks....and than the finches and canaries all go down for a peck, scratch, feed and the floor turns into a rainbow!!! HEHEHE

My largest aviary...where the chooks are is about 12' x 8' x 6' high. Other aviary with my princess parrots is about 7' x 4' x 8' high...my polish roo's when they are in with the princesses always roost as high as they can get which is about a foot from the roof, princesses don't mind sharing (they have 5 pullets/cockerals at the moment) as they get a bigger variety of food though why they would want more variety is beyond me considering what I give them normally.
My chooks started in the aviaries because I had no where else for them at the time, but now it is a very normal thing and nobody has an issue whatsoever. But than in the house the rules are that ALL the animals have to get along and not eat each other or they deal with me!! Not one problem with 2 dogs,4 cats, about a dozen chooks (some free-ranging) and 2 aviaries all getting along nicely.....bloody noah's ark here!

Get this my first quail hen to hatch babies is now laying/nesting again. She is already upto about 6 eggs and as I have just sold the 4 older babies I have put the second hen and her baby back in the aviary with the other 2. Seems I am destined to breed more silver king quails this year. Heck they are getting late for this season that really should be last season now!! Even the Zebbies are still going and as I stated in a previous post the cutthroats as well. What is it with the fertility in this house.darn birds are getting more than me LOL
