Gouldians are not the best parents and sometimes they require assistance and usually use other birds to "adopt" them. I think he was implying that his birds actually do look after their young.

oh ok. So the breeders use other birds to raise them or the gouldians use other parents. Pretty stupid aren't I ......... it must be the breeders that use them LOL

Thanks for this, wilsta. I liked what was said about the wild Gouldians. "There are only three colour heads in the wild, most common is the Black Head, then the Red Head, and very rare Orange Head.." The case for not using foster parents in regard to Gouldians was put most forcibly and clearly. The importance of imprinting was clearly stated. Here I am reminded of the use of incubators in regard to parrots. Clearly it is one thing to use an incubator, when the parrot parents are not good parents and the eggs are fertile. Some parrot breeders plan to deliberately use incubators from the word go. The eggs are taken away to put in an incubator,so as to encourage the parrots to breed again and henceforth lay eggs. The poor parrots never have a chance of seeing their babies, let alone raising them.Surely this must be frustrating for the parrots. Money money money. Surely there is more to life and keeping birds, than money.. from Robert and Angel

I enjoyed all the threads. Thanx for putting them up guys. We had trouble when our Gouldians started to breed -- they wouldn't feed their babies. I fed them for about 2 days then away they went on their own, rearing a healthy clutch. I haven't had any trouble with them since although the Painteds are doing it to me now. I've lost a few clutches but am hoping I can get them feeding soon
