Just a quick update, the vet felt there could also be an element of zinc deficiency. I would have thought the other canary would have been displaying the same severe symptoms but anyway I had already started them on fresh fruit and veggies which they loved and the owner who now has them back will continue. Thanks for all your support everyone.

Just another quickie, anyone in the northern suburbs of Perth WA, there is an avian vet called Phil Clark at VetWest in wanneroo. He doesn't advertise the fact, I found him quite by accident. Nice guy.

just heard from the owner that the canary has laid an egg. She must be feeling better. Maybe I could find it a new home if it hatches better not tell hubbie
