we went to the pet shop yesterday to get some feeders for the aviary and saw some stunning looking gouldians. I didn't know they came in so many different colours now.

Great colours your Gouldians have Karen, good luck with the last one Have you tried Ant rid outside the avairy, pour a teaspoon of sugar outside then add 2 teaspoons Antrid should rid you of the problem for enough time for the baby to grow

Mum sprinkled granules around the outside last weekend. I reckon the ants have dug under the darn thing!

Oh I am sorry a little one died Very beautiful birds though and you have done well to breed them as they are reputed to be difficult, I hope the other one grows strong

I found daddy gouldian dead yesterday after work. Poor mummy has to look after the bub all by herself now.

Sorry to hear about your gouldians. It could be possible the male was protecting the young from all the ants.

They all died. The last one I'd bought had what looked like a cold so I thought it would be fine. Obviously it was more serious. I'm not going to get any more finch's.

I've not had any luck with the 2 species I've kept so I gave up. It's been about a year since I had any so I'm not missing them anymore. The first species I kept were zebra's and I let them all escape when I forgot to close the door on their cage Plus there are hundreds of Double Bars around and I hate them! They cost me a fortune when I had to go and double layer the wire in my breeding cages as they ate all the food the budgies had to feed their babies! Poor budgies kept starving!

Oh dear, finches really aren't your cuppa tea then are they! I know what you mean about the double bars, we have them here too and I don't have any of them in my finch aviary because they are everywhere in the back yard. They try and get into the finch aviary but they can't, so they help themselves into the ringnecks aviary. I have to say though, they are a little cautious when they are in there. The ringnecks give them a bit of a hurry up.
