Free range cats.....grrrrrrrrrrrr .......in saying this I have netting all around the front of the avairy to stop them climbing the bird wire and giving the tiels nite frights and the other morning I walked out the back to find the most horrid scene, we have the little wild crested doves hanging around our yard and one was caught by a cat, there were feathers every where on our back patio along with blotches of blood, it's lower beak and part of it's scull, that poor little bird must have gone thru a living hell. Don't get me wrong, I 've had cats, I love all animals....but cat owners must be responsible.

There has to be lots of ideas out there for detering cats from your aviary, I found a couple of dogs did the trick with me.

I don't think anyone here, including myself, would use excessive methods to protect their birds.
I'd never do anything considered cruel to chase the cats away because I'd hate for someone to do something cruel to my furry babies!
As for dogs, I'm not a dog person, and our neighbours dog causes enough problems as well, jumping up on the fence or barking everytime I go outside. Dogs can scare/eat/kill birdies too, so thats no option for me unfortunately.

Hello Claire i know you love your cats in fairness to the administrators post regarding cruelty there was a post made by a member that wasn't in compliance with what we we are about here and so it was deleted maybe that persons post was written with tongue in cheek however it is only fair to explain why Bill placed that post cheers Frank

John I have to agree with you. My dog is the best deterent. He has actually become good friends with my tiels. He protects them from any four legged predators as well as any bigger birds that might want to have a go at them. In return I have seen the tiels push thei bread i feed them back trough the wire, which the dog only too happily eats. ;D ;D
