Finally got them to stay still long enough for me to take some photo's This is the darker of the 3. The 2 lutino sisters !! They're all trying to look out ofthe nesting box entry at the moment, so it obviously won't be long before they're climbing out. Still a bit unsure as to the sex of the darker chick, any thoughts anyone ? How early can you tell with red-rumps ? Cheers Viraba

Hi Viraba, Nice looking babies, You should be very proud of them Are you sure they are Lutino, The two lighter once's seem to have a greenish tinge, It just could be the light when u took the photo, But I was just looking in the book A Guide to Colour Mutations and Genitics in Parrots, They resemble what he called a Lutino Lime, which is a sex link mutation, Viraba what colour is the mum and dad? And it may help identify the darker chick as well as what sexes the babies are...... Shawn

Hi Shawn, The colour is more the light. Both the lighter chicks are yellow and almost certainly lutino.
Mum is a cinnamon and Dad a normal split lutino (?? split cinnamon....not sure about that). That's why the question regarding the darker chick. It actually looks like a cinnamon to me.
Cheers

Hi Viraba, O.k, I just done a colour genetic test on the parents Cock Bird: Normal split Lutino and (poss) Cinnamon, Hen Bird Cinnamon First Mating: Cock Bird: Normal split Lutino x Hen Bird: Cinnamon Cocks: 50.0% Normal split Lutino Cinnamon 50.0% Normal split Cinnamon Hens: 50.0% Lutino 50.0% Normall Second Mating: Cock Bird: Normal split Lutino & Cinnamon(poss) Hen: Cinnamon Cocks: 48.5% Cinnamon 1.5% Cinnamon split Lutino 48.5% Normal split Lutino Cinnamon 1.5% Normal split Cinnamon Hens: 1.5% Normal 48.5% Lutino 1.5% Lutino Cinnamon 48.5% Normal Cinnamon By working it out,,,,I say the second paring would be right, So that means You have Lutino hens and the other chick if it is a Cinnamon could be a cock or hen bird. If it is a cock bird it would be Cinnamon or a Cinnamon split Lutino, If it is a hen it would just be Cinnamon.... I hope this is right!!! Genetic still on my learner's Anyway they are nice looking babies. Here is the colour genetic site I did the test matings on: www.gencalc.com/gen/eng_genc.php?sp=0ParRedRCheers Shawn P-S, I hope you can understand this, I "JUST"

Yeah Shawn, I'm with you......I find the genetics stuff a bit difficult to get my head around, though I was talking to Frank & John about this pair earlier on and they made it sound so easy !!! I can see how it can take over your life It'll be interesting to see gender the darker bird ends up because that will dictate what splits Dad has...........whether he's just lutino split or both lutino & cinnamon split. Going by your %'s though, (and if Dad's a split lutino & cinnamon), if it's a cinnamon chick then it could be either cock or hen couldn't it ? If it's a cock then it could be just a straight cinnamon or perhaps cinnamon split lutino. If it's a hen it would be just a normal cinnamon. That make sense !! Anyway, thanks for the site as well. I'll have a look at that shortly. Cheers Viraba

Yep both lutino's are hens and you are right with the other bird looking at the picture I would guess it is a split cockbird, they are all nice birds.

Hi Viraba, By reading what you wrote:
Quote: It'll be interesting to see gender the darker bird ends up because that will dictate what splits Dad has...........whether he's just lutino split or both lutino & cinnamon split.
To my understanding Cinnamon is a sex-link gene, With having saying that, if your darker bird is a Visual Cinnamon your Cockbird must be split to Cinnamon in order to produce a visual Cinnaman offspring.
As a visual Cinnamon hen can not produce a visual Cinnamon offspring unless it is mated to a Cinnamon or split Cinnamon cockbird, The hen bird being a visual cinnamon can only produce Normal split Cinnamon cockbirds when mated to another colour other then Cinnamon.
As for the sex of your Darker bird (Cinnamon), That's if it is Cinnamon it could be a cock or hen........If dad is a split Cinnamon and Mum is a Visual Cinnamon
Still learning
Cheers Shawn
