Hi all, Here are a couple more photos of little macca and the cocky. He's finally growing into his beak. Now, isn't he the absolute cutest?!! The two cockies have been nicknamed Bulldogs as they are currently devouring a heck of a lot of h/r mix!!

You certainly know your handrearing implements very well. :-) No it hasn't been that long, only two - three weeks since my last post. But then again, that's a long time when we consider chicks' growth rates. They're much bigger now then when those photos were taken.
Yeah, macca definitely does look like a macaw now. He has a fantastic feeding responce and is almost 200grams heavier today than in the photo above. :-) Wish I'd taken photos of the birds' 'bottoms'. Look like roast chooks.

haha, I think a 'bit' of noise is an under statement. The second one chicks is being fed, all the others around it start yelling at the top of their voice. Can get a tad loud.

They certainly are growing up fast & are turning into beautiful looking birds. Don't think I would like one of those babies sitting on my shoulder LOL While surfing the net, I found this site on a new way to feed bigger birds. Don't know if you've seen it but I thought that seeing as you are h/rearing bigger birds you might find it interesting. www.parrotpro.com/cupfeed.htmlCheers Anna

I had a look last night at this site...I was waiting to see what others mite have had to say about feeding in this manner...Ok well here goes mine...Some may not like what I have to say..
Well I think it would be a lot more dangerest this way...How can you control how much the bird would get at one swallow..And those polly cups are very toxic...I would never use them.I dont even use them if I had take away coffee...Once heat hits them they let toxicons out...and I would hate to think what it would be like if a peice broke off...whiles feeding a bird and it swallowed it...Thats what I think anyways...others mite have a defferent opinion..

Thanks for the link. I just had a quick read at the website today and must say that I am already using this method. If I know that I'm heading off for a holiday and still have chicks on the feed, I always feed the birds via the cup method so that whoever takes over doesn't have to worry about spoon or crop feeding.
And yes, the choice of cups is of vital importance. As I only very quickly glanced over the content of the website so I didn't actually get to the type of cup they recommend.

I know of other breeders who feed their larger parrots by a cup. Some use the plastic disposable cups which dont fall apart.

It would just worry me feeding this way..but what works for others thats good...But I would not recommed a biggner to use this method...And yes it is very important on what materials you use as well...
