Regent parrots used to be quite common throughout SA and other states. Sadly they are believed to be endangered.Farmers, vineyard growers and fruit growers in the Riverland blamed them for destroying crops and shot these beutiful birds to save their crops. I am very lucky to have a huge flock up to 100 birds living just at the back of my families propety. I have tried counting them, but there is too many to count at once. Two days ago I was up the the block when the flock flew just metres away from me. They landed five metres away from and one young regent landed in a olive treeone metre away from me. In the future I am thinking about breeding the beutiful endangered wild Australian parrots. On my families 18 acre block we also have a range of different native Australian birds like Green rosellas, crested pigeons, crows, Goshawks, honey eaters and we even get Silver eyes which migrate from Tassie. I front of our house we have a natral lagoon that has a range of water birds like black swans, silver gulls, freckled ducks, White beasted sea eagles and much much more. What types of birds do you guys have living around your homes?

To help with counting bat colonies roxy WIRES use handheld clickers so that might be an idea for you if you wanted to try again..there is obviously a trick to it so maybe a call to oyur local WIRES office will help you there.
I have kurrawongs, magpies, pee wee's,mynor birds, wrens, crested pigeons, sulphur creasted 'too's and galahs flying around here in surburbian Sydney. Our local council also holds an annual bird-watching id count so as to see what birds we have coming into the area, which must be about time to come around again.

Roxy you are soooo lucky to see all those Regents flying free in the wild, lets hope they are given more protection so future generations can see them free too. I have a male Regent, I'm hoping to find a wife for him but they're as rare as hens teeth so I don't think that'll happen this year. I live in very suburban Brisbane but in my yard feeding on my trees I get Rainbow Lorikeets, Galahs, Corellas, Sulfur Crested Cockatoos, Pale faced Rosellas, numerous spotted turtle doves who nest in my tree and a pair of small green finches who breed in my crepe myrtle each year (not sure what type of finch).

We have much the same as Seb as we only live a few kilometers away. I think the strange bird you hear in the morning is the Wattle Bird. I get it too. We have grey headed bats, toos, corellas, a couple of Eastern Rosellas, the usual noisy mynahs and Indian mynahs, pee wees, sometimes English blackbirds, mostly hear them calling for mates in summer, drive us mad. Crested pigeons and the top knots which are really cute. Of course Rainbow Lorikeets and just recently heaps of little Lorikeets. Magpies and Currawongs of course. Can't think of anything else at the moment. We also have a colony of the Masked Lapwings (Plovers) which are always in our street.

Just over the back of me there is regularly an eagle. A WIRES friend said its a wedge tail.
Ohhh and that strange call I hear every morning is my half dozen roosters crowing LOL.

Yeah we get wedgies here too ............ oops you meant the feathered kind didn't you. LOL
Seb you have 6 roosters?? You obviously don't live in town or you have very tolerant neighbours. I would love to have one, but one of my neighbours would complain especially since someone just recently aquired one. I hear him crowing every morning and I love it. I doesn't bother me at all.
