As I have told you in the past my Princess Parrots have been trying to mate, he is either too young or too stupid to know what to do, or so I thought, Jill has been walking around the aviary growling at Bronson for two weeks, ducking her head and displaying to him and the other day I finally caught him making an attempt to mate. Well Jill has finally gone down in a nest box AND laid an egg, she is sitting on it and he, like a good husband, is standing guard outside the nest and attacks me every time i have a look. I really hope something comes out of the egg but I am not getting my hopes up but baby Princess Parrots would be nice ;D

Yes Tracey they are normal, but I don't care really I am just hoping the eggs a fertile. She is now sitting on three eggs and she is laying an egg every second day and she is doing all the right things it will be so good, I really wasn't expecting them. Incubation is around 21 days so in about three weeks we should know.

Wow good on you John...fingers crossed that you get something out of them. My blue and green pr are finally starting to make "eyes" at each other so fingers crossed here as well LOL. They truly are a beautiful bird that I have waited several years to own and if it all goes well I'll be 1 very excited and happy grandaddy to Boris and Zsa Zsa's kids this season.

Well the final count is she is sitting on 6 eggs, if i don't get at least one baby out of this I'll be very disappointed . Just an added bit to this saga is the male bird, Bronson, has become very aggressive toward me, I have to take my wife into the aviary with me just to distract him while i check the other boxes and remove the feed dishes. Let's hope you get lots of chicks!! John do you mind if I ask which birds you have sharing the aviary with the princesses? I really want to get some but I'm unsure about their housing arrangements.

I have a mixed aviary Jane and there are cockatiels, red rumps and the princess parrots all in the same aviary. The mix of birds is 3 pair of cockatiels, 3 pair of red rumps and one pair of princess parrots, they are all breeding and the aviary is about 5meters long and all birds get on okay.
Having said that I am going to remove a pair of cockatiels, a White Face pied cock and an Albino hen, and put them in an aviary by themselves. I also have a spare aviary that I can use if I have any problems, but so far so good.
