I am looking for a male for her and for Shrekie. I want her to be able to fly around in an aviary with a mate.........babies or not doesn't matter to me, but being able to still talk to her and to see her happy will please me. If I did get babies out of them, I just might keep a little boy. ;D

I think that may solve her hormonal problems if she had a mate.

Yeah, it is sad though that she will never be my little girl again, but she still has her ways.........it is just not as easy to handle her anymore.
Yes Phil...........if I am ever blessed to have babies from Skye, then a little green man will definetly be living in my house eventually.
I can see I will have a male alex (Takoda) and a male ekkie and eventually probably a black cockatoo also. ;D as house pets.

I am trying to research about the blacks now to find out which makes the better pet. So far it seems the red tailed Black 'toos are the best. But am still researching and will not be buying one before the end of next year anyway.

His name is Rex (he was the biggest baby the breeder has ever had), we got him at 2 months old so have had to be feeding him with a syringe, he was born 27th of october and he is now down to 2 feeds a day, soon he will be fully weaned i assume.
He isnt being forced to wean, its really up to him but breeder said they usually sell them at around 4 months, but they trusted me to handrear him the rest of the way as i demonstrated i knew how to feed a baby.
He is amazing, he lets you do anything to him as in touch him anywere on his body, He can be turned on his back and he just lays there doesnt get scared or panic ( i read in a eclectus book that this mean they have complete trust in you).
He also flys to me when i leave him somewere he will fly to where i am and land on my hand, that is quite amazing for such a young bird.
It was so random how i taught him to do it, he flew one day and landed on my blinds which was obviously not a comfortable spot for him, instead of getting him i stood about 3-4 metre away with my arm out and kept calling him and shaking my arm, would you believe he came to me after only 1 minute and landed on my arm, this was at about 9 weeks of age!
So right now we are focusing on teaching him things involving flying, its so cute how now if i leave him on his cage he will fly to me as he would rather be with me, he likes to sleep really close to my face, its so cute as he starts of standing asleep then slowly ends up laying down on me.
Its amazing the sense of trust this bird has with me, its such an opposite to my alex, who loves me to bits but he never trusts me to hold or touch him anywere except his beak, feet and chest.
Sorry about the rant, i just came back from my girlfriends mums house and he was so good, we put him somewere then call and he would come, he basically taught himself this trick.

Photos will be coming soon, also my Alex doesnt mind him but he is scared of him because he is so much bigger its cute. Its funny though my alex hates being touched , i thought maybe because rex is a another bird jet(my alex) would have different rules for him, as in he would let rex touch him anywere but my alex treats rex just like a human. ( as in if rex trys to touch him anywere that is unaccepted he will back away and if u keep trying he will bite, not hard though) So yeah they cant be near eachother for long as the ecky is far too touchey for my alex, its sad because my ecky is being so friendly but alex is being a snob, not aggressive but doesnt let the ecky touch him and gets annoyed when the ecky trys to feed him. But if there in the same room they dont bother with each other which is all i could really hope for.

wow you are so lucky and it sounds like your ekkie boy is just a delight. I am in the process of buying a male ekkie and male alex but they will be aviary birds. I decided the other day that I would try to handraise a baby male ekkie myself for a pet for me .......as well as my other green man Takoda. After reading your post I am now quite excited. Yes they are very quick learners too. I taught Skye to recall to me and it didn't take very long either.

After hand raising this one, i would never go back to getting a bird that is already weaned, once you are a provider for them they just look at you differently, its funny both me and my girlfriend can see that rex(my ecky) looks at us alot different then jet does (my alex), its sort of like a child looks at there mother, how there mother is always the most important thing to them and that is how it feels.
Were as with my alex it feels like he does what he wants and we are just accommodation and food for him dont feel a connection or significance in his life to the same extent.
Im a very affectionate person and i need a bird that i feel love from, unfortunatly it doesnt feel that way with my Alex but with my ecky it does.
Its as if my alex is on a different level to people he just thinks he is king which is a quality i dislike, this is due to my parents corrupting him( long story), basically every thing he does is perfect in my mums eyes which is not how it works with birds, she has reinforced so many bad behaviors( by praising him no matter what he does and constant treats) that he resembles more of a rescue project then MY PET BIRD!! GRRRR!

You also have to remember that alex's are not a touchy feely bird either. Their way of showing affection is to sit on your shoulder and just be with you. Takoda will rub his head on my hair and preen my face and eyelashes and that is his way of showing me he loves me..............least I think that is what it is showing me. lol
My female ekkie "was" the same also. ;D Whereas I have read that male ekkies can be more affectionate and can also handle a bit of patting sometimes..........but they are not normally like a cockatoo though. I happen to like the "aloofnes" of them now that I am used to it.......it does take a bit of getting used to though..........but I think I would like a bird also that likes a bit of affection too now.

Oh and yes Takoda does love me as I am "mummy" but I have to say that Shrekie loves me too and I didn't get her until she was 18 months old.

Oh well my alex does love to sit on me and does all the things you mentioned, its just i like to show my affection and touch to show love(cuddles, head rubs etc) which ofcorse being an alex he doesnt let me. There no doubt he does love me but i find it hard to feel connections if i cant express my love with them, does that make sense? It basically offends me that he doesnt allow me to touch him they way i want to hehe. I do so much for him yet he doesnt even let me touch him, what a snob lol Oh well now i have a bird i can touch alot, and give cuddles, hope he never changes!
