Yesterday I was talking to my O/H and I was telling him about what I had read in the "guide to asiatics" book I just purchased online the other day. They talk a bit about genetics and how they cross lutino IRN with pure green alexandrines to eventually breed (I am assuming it takes about 8 generations) a pure lutino alexandrine. Anyway, I proceeded to tell him I would love to breed a blue alexandrine (I am guessing it probably has been done already) but it started me getting a bit curious about the genetic side of breeding. Hubby just looked at me and said "you would need an awful lot of birds and cages if you were to do that" I smiled and said "yes I know"..............while innocently batting my eyelids ;D ;D

8 generations is good, 16 generations is best, they are regarded as pure after 8 generations. But remember, Alex don't breed until they are 3 years old, if you want to breed Blues from scratch, it would take you over 20 years. Just something to think about The Blues have been bred, they are about $4000 each. A waste of money for a hybrid i say

Thanks Jeremy. Wow $4000 for a blue alex I thought they would be expensive................. I guess I wont be breeding blue ones then ;D I can vaguely remember with dogs (my parents bred cats and dogs) hearing that it took at least 8 generations to breed back to purebred again. I always thought that 8 was not quite enough. Yes I was aware that alexs normally did not breed till about 3 years old, but did not do the "math". I have never been interested in hybrids/breeding or gentics, but I am starting to find I am interested, it just seems so hard to understand..............guess the more I read the easier it will get. ...........maybe
