Not really a stumpy tail. more of a habitat!

You got it roxy! a Tawny Frogmouth. He/she cost me 2 Squirrel Gliders and 2 Ringtailed Possums (all bred by me of course).
I need to keep Tawnies and breed them first before i can get my permit granted for Nightjars, then i have to get some nightjars, teh hardest task!!

Tawnys are fantastic. We've got 4 at my Johns place though 2 are soon to be released. They have such cool personalities.
Bec, you have to feed them dead mice, insects (preferably live ones) and we also feed ours slices of lambs heart coated in insectivor mix and wrapped in dog hair. Other than their food they're pretty easy to care for.

Do they need the hair to help digest the food or something? or is it just to make it more "life like"

THanks Jules, Tracey the regurgitate the fut and bones taht are swallowed in a Pellet like Kookaburras and many raptors Plus, Ever tried to skin a mouse? Feeding whole carcasses is best as it contains the right calcium to phosphorus ratio for animal health

I'm jealous. We had a Tawny Frogmouth at the Sanctuary where I used to work. The other keeper used to hold the mouse by the tail and smack it's head on a log to kill it. Yuuuuuckkkk!! I couldn't do that but the Tawny was very accommodating - I would hold the tail of the mouse and he would grab it by the head, toss it into the air and grab it by the back end and smack it's head on a log. A bit yucky either way but a gorgeous old fella he was. You're so lucky!!! Enjoy.
