Well this is unexpected. Gorgeous looking boy there Lisa. I'm not ever going to have a black myself (personal preference) but I do like to admire their beauty.

I'm not 100% sure on the subspecies as i havent been given all his paper work yet ... but i'd just take a stab and say samueli .... Abby: yesss wasnt on the cards .... well he was a few months back when the guy phoned me and asked would i take him ... but then said if he'd clip his wings he may keep him .... so his wings got clipped and i phoned and checked a few days later ... and the guy was like "nahh his doing great i'm gonna keep him" ... So for me that was the end of that ... as i also wasnt to interested in owning such a big non exotic bird ... But a few weeks ago .. the guy called me again asking if i'd take him other wise he will be selling him .. and i just couldnt let that happen .... soo i had to apply for my licence etc ... and then yesterday the guy called and said he'd bring him over ... so here he is ... Still not a bird i'd probably just go out and buy ... but i had met this one ... and there was no way i could let him just go to some random home ... to then probably end up re homed again .. He hasnt been to noisy yet ... but i am having trouble finding toys that he wont just bite in half ... and the diet i've had to research alittle bit ... I was hoping Judy would pop on to give me some do's and donts .. As for the cage ... yesssssssssss love the ferret/cat/bird cage .... i have started buying them for all my birds ... i'm up to my 3rd one which i'll pick up this saturday ... with hopefully a 4th as well ... i have my eckies and the `too in them ... and i hope to put my sun conures in them as well ... I have the shevles in for my eckies but i'm thinking of taking them out ... i dont have them in for the `too .. Ebay is great for buying them ... i found a place in sydney that ya can go pick up .... i havent paid over $150 for one of these cages yet ... But i also now have the hassle of re selling some of my other cages ... as they are just sitting around doing nothing now ...

Jackos diet would be very simple. I had been worried about Jettas diet when I first got her as well, as Id never owned toos before, specially a black. Looks like from Jackos pics he may be a samulei. Thats what jettas breed is.
Jettas diet is basically the same as my other guys lisa. Executive parrot mix, dry arrowroot biscuits, unsalted beernuts (they love cracking open the shell with there beaks) and she absolutely loves almonds. Thats the dry side of the diet anyways. On the vege side she loves corn on the cob, celery and carrot. she is still not real fussed on her veg as yet. Ive also been told you can mix in canary seed with there normal seed. Just beware lisa, with the executive parrot mix it comes with alot of sunflower seed. Some say its not good for the birds but they love it, and they are all healthy and happy.
Toys well, this is a hard one as with the beaks they just chew everything.. The toys I bought of you they enjoy, which was the balls. I have got some sissal rope hanging in her cage, branches. I tried not to overfill her cage as she is in full flight and loves to spread her wings. This way she cant damage her wings if she has a play. I need to get her a bigger cage as I wasnt expecting her to be so big lol.
Samulies are the smaller subspecies of the normal red tail black, but they dont vary much in size difference.
Wingclipping was a hard decision for me and jetta. I spoke endlessely to my breeder in melbourne about wether or not to get her done. In the end I didnt as her wings are just magnificent and would be a shame to wreck them. I was a bit worried about my decision at first as she kept crashing into things, but once she learned her route around the loungeroom she was good. We have the high cathedral ceilings so she has plenty of height. These days she doesnt fly anyways cause I have trained her to be with us which was difficult at first but worth it. If I have her in the loungeroom she hovers from every bit of furniture and she has learnt to come on command. Alot of treats were involved in this process such as almonds and arrowroot biscuits. It was so funny to teach her how to eat corn on the cob. I ended up wearing most of it most of the time lol.
Just one thing to be careful about lisa, Jetta has decided she only likes grown ups and not children. Only cause I think they were annoying the hell out of her when she first got here. This is probably a good thing in a way, Im not worried about them letting her out of her cage. She is fine with everyone else but doesnt like big crowds she tends to get nippy, and I dont want to go there with her. Overall Jetta is a magnificent little girl and bird to own, very big sook indeed and loves quiet time with my husband and I.
I did although have to remove jetta from the lounge room as she was becoming too dependant on me. Everytime I entered the room shed start crying and wouldnt stop till I let her out. In the end I moved her in the bird room with my other big guys and she is fine now. It was the best thing I couldve done.
Hope I havent babbled on too much lisa, and hope Ive given some tips for you instead. As I said feel free to ask any questions about Jacko.
