Thanks sooo much for the advice Judy ... means a lot .... and has given me alot to think about ... I to have moved Jacko to my bird room with my other noisy brats .... but i'm starting to realise Jacko was more spoilt at his old home but with the lack of human contact ... They clipped his wing ... and just let him out to play by himself ... so for me ... letting him out and then putting him back when i want has become a nightmare ... So i've decided to clip his wings for now ... as i have real control over him ... Jacko i think is also wants that human contact .... he wants to sit on ya shoulder and be around ya .... but with him being able to fly just gives him that upper hand in our place ... I also have it keep reminding myself that he is probably still trying to settle in here and decide where he is in the flock ... he come from a 1 pet bird household ... where here i have hmm half a dozen ... I have noticed tho he isnt eating as much as i thought he would .... the ex owner said he loved corn on the cob .... nuts etc ... but i've offered all those and he doesnt seem to interested .... i just hope he isnt stressing out to much being re homed .... Also the toys ... its veryyy hard but he loves them .... i gave him this nut barell thingy ... which my other birds hardle touch ... and its pretty hard plastic stuff .... and Jacko has taken bit chunks out of it .... he also got on the playstand the other day ... and within minutes broke 1 or 2 toys that were handing on it .. I mite have to look into some heavy duty toys from the u.s for them .... Thanks once again Judy for taking the time to post ... very much appreciated:)

Dont stress over jacko not having an appetite as yet. Jetta didnt eat for three or four days when I got her. I picked her up from the airport and she was in such a state it was heartbreaking for me, specially being my first freighted bird. My breeder however did tell me it will take a while for her to settle. But me being me I worried for my girl. She sat perched on her branch in the same spot for two days and didnt move, and she was stressed abit. When I got her out of her frieght cage she was happy to fly and be around us, but didnt like being put in a cage after that. I sent mark that many emails lol, I felt sorry for him. He was the best. He talked me thru everything and was happy to answer my questions which was quite a few at that point. Give jacko a couple of days and he will settle. Just be there when you can with him and comfort him so he gets used to you.
Dont however fall into the trap I did. Whenever jetta cried Id let her out and mother her. In the end I had to train myself into letting her cry so she wasnt so dependent on me.
Just one thing about the males I have heard, they can become very dependant on humans and basically become there shadows. One breeder I was talking to in bundy had to put his guy in an avairy which was sad, as the too was his shadow and the owners never had time for this. So they have to learn to be on there own as well.

AHhhh yeahhh i was thinking the other day .... pooor little guy should be in an avairy to be the bird he wants to be .... But he was hand raised ... the next owner only bought him Feb 24th 2007 .... but i also am 100% sure ... the ex owner just jacko run the show and do what he wanted ... when he could ... the ex owner really didnt have much time for him as he owned his own business etc ... So i think it will take some work to get Jacko where i want/need him to be ... but i'll give it my best shot before deciding if he fits into our home or not ... Cause my big thing is control ... i like to tell the bird when play time and cage time is ... all my birds have at least 2 hours a day out of cage time .... everyone takes there turn ... my baby eckie tho is alittle more spoilt but thats cause he wants to just cuddle more so then run a muck flying around etc ... This is my first cockatoo as well .... i never even dreamed of owning a cockatoo .... same as owning an eclectus ... But i hate seeing birds rehomed ... and i'd meet jacko a couple of times ... and just didnt want to see him go to a stranger who would probably now realise the same problem i have with him being a little bit of a free willy I'm off out today to get some better seed for him ... as i mostly have small parrot mix in my house .... plus get some better dishes as he has started to eat the plastic ones i've put in there .. I went with those ferret/cat/bird cages ... for all my bigger birds and my sun conure pair I have now removed the shelves and stuff for more room plus i've put more perches and toys in it now .... that pic was like 10 minutes after i'd put it together .... and they are really bigger then what the pic shows ... i'll try and get another pic later today .... i scored them on ebay brand new ... the last one i win the bid at $76 and the the highest at $145 Tho i have noticed hardly any of them go down the bottom half of the cage ... which is a little disappointing they'd have lots more room if they'd just move around more ... hahahaha

thats a big enough cage. Thankfully jacko has come to a person who understands his needs and wants. Its a shame to see beuatiful big birds like toos being rehomed. People really dont know what they are letting themselves infor, specially with that variety of birds. Specially if they havent had a bird themselves. They are basically with you for life and there lifespan is around 50 adult years. Ive written all my big guys in my will lol. Although Jetta maybe a worry if anything happens to me and andrew. Not sure on how she would cope on being rehomed.

Yeahhhh .... the big thing now is Education about parrot owning i think .... this guy just went from bird to bird ... even tho they were aviary birds ... and then got Jacko .... he had asked me a couple of times to take him over the last 6 months .... but then kept changing his mind ... until this last time ...
But then asked me what other bird could he get that isnt so noisy and attention seeking ... i said none of the bigger birds ...
I'm also going to put all my companion birds into my will ... and i've decided as harsh as eveyrone else mite see it ... i'm reqeusting mine be put to sleep and cremated with me ... cause i just wouldnt and couldnt trust anyone else with them ... nor would i put them through being rehomed to someone who wouldnt care for them like i do ...

Lisa............ just a thought...........I am assuming you are going to live for "many many many more moons yet ;D " like the rest of us here ;D .......... why not sort out in your will people who YOU think would be the right parronts for your birdies? I have already told my kids who I want to get my birds. My eldest son, my youngest daughter and my little boy will inherit my birds as they are the only ones I would trust to look after my birds.......my pets I am talking about. Rhianna would be good with the ekkies or even Caillean when he is an adult ( I know he is only a little boy now.........but I don't plan on going anywhere too soon). Vance my eldest son who is 27 now would be good with my pet alex who is Takoda at the moment and if I do buy myself a black cockatoo.............he will be left to Caillean as he is young and will be growing up with the bird and the bird will think of him as part of his flock anyway. I myself couldn't contemplate putting them down just because I pass away............I have planned for them .............. any breeders I may or may not have can be sold but my pets which will be my ekkies I have now........Gunny and Skye and a baby boy I might keep one day, Shrekie and Takoda (Shrekies mate Alex if necessary but we are not bonded to him as he is a very flighty aviary bird) and Peppa of course and I had planned on buying a black cockatoo maybe this year........so if that happens then "him" too. Just a thought Lisa.......I am not suggesting anyone here either, I just thought maybe you could put some thought into who you would consider someone to look after your pet birds. You might have to have a couple of people lined up between trustworthy friends and family etc...... just like you would with your human kids. Just my honest opinion

I do hope to live for awhile yet ... havent quiet hit 35 yet but yeahhhh i know its probably a harsh thing to say .... but for me i dont have that many options as at this present time ... have no kids ... and hmm kinda not planning any neither .... I have 2 brothers ... 1 who travels alot overseas ... and another that lives in W.A .. and well as for trustworthy friends ... i'd probably trust some people on this forum more so then them Thanks for your suggestions tho Tracey ... I have a fiance that would probably take care the ones he can control ... But yeah i'll leave it a few more years to decide what is to truely happen with them all
