I am in NSW, but the birds are coming from Qld. They will be here tomorrow after a couple of flights. I hate to see birds freighted, but they should settle down after a while. I will put up a pic when I get a chance.

Hey Shaun, Can I ask how you have found keeping them? I get mixed reports on agression etc? Thanks

Jane,
For the first couple of weeks, they were housed next to moustache parrots, and the male major would sway back and forth biting the wire. This kept up when the moustached were moved and gang gangs moved next to them. It took a good month for this to stop. I havent seen him do it for a fair while now. That is the only aggresion I have seen so far from them. (If you can take it as aggression) I thought it could also be boredom.
I now put branches between the pairs for them to chew, and for a bit of privacy. It has seemed to work. The majors have been in the box chewing the natural spout and dropping it into the nest. The nest is also lined with feathers and the pine shavings chewed. Im hoping this could be a sign they are happy and intend to breed. Or it could be that they just like to chew!

They are not tame birds, but are fairly quiet. The male will take a biscuit from my hand. My pair are not aggressive towards me at all. This may change if they start to breed though. They are one bird I would probably wouldnt like to be bitten by.

It has nearly come to that a couple of times now. Every time I go in and she gives me the eye, I think of you being attacked by your female, and plan my escape if it does happen! She is ok though, I can hand feed them and give their feet a quick pat.
They have another egg now, so this will be attempt number 3. Fingers crossed.

I have only started breeding this season. But yes I did give them calcium sometimes in their water, but mostly I try to give them foods I think are high in calcium most of the time anyway.
